Chandler may have written better stories than Red Wind, but that's been my favorite for a long time. Aside from the great opening, this is the best example of Marlowe's knight errant sensibilities, buying fake pearls to give to his client so her illusions of her lost lover won't be destroyed. A beautiful story.
