So what the heck is an e-book? Oh come on! You’ve got some—I’d almost guarantee it. It’s a book in electronic format (Html, mobipocket, Palm or Adobe to name a few). Everyone who writes, does so for a reason. Some of us have a story to tell. Some of us want to change the world. My books Safe Beginnings and Safe House are set in a battered women's shelter because I'm in the second group. I want to change the world.

Thank you for your condolences, Christine. Sorry for the late reply. I need a new computer. . . I'm just now seeing the comments from you and Pepper from June. ePress-online published a reprint of my historical novel and it's supposed to be on Amazon.com next week. I wasn't charged anything for the Fictionwise listing, where my book, Escape, is currently #1 on their sales list, probably because it's ePress's newest release. I'm so new to ebook publishing that I don't know what to expect. . . but it's certainly helped to take my mind off my loss, at least temporarily.

Okay, got it. ePressonline is a member of EPIC (a good sign) but Piers Anthony seems to confirm that they charge for fictionwise (15.00) which I have never seen done. Writer's exchange sure doesn't and yes, I like Sandy Cummins from there. Neither does Trebleheart. Trebleheart will put them in print for nothing too if Lee like you. Sandy charges the setup fee (not the editing, cover, ISBN or any of that but just the setup fee for print only--which varies according to how many of her authors are wanting print at the moment--usually somewhere about 100.00. I just have my 2nd book out with her in e format (the free one). Lee (trebleheart) is looking at it for print.

Okay, just checked over at Absolute Write. There are no bad reports as far as I could see. They sell the ebook through Fictionwise, and make it available in print through Lulu. So I guess it depends, there, on what you want.

Jean, who was charging the $1000? Reputable epubs don't charge a set-up fee to publish your book. Fictionwise is a bookstore, but they do charge a fee to process publishers books and put them online at the store. Last I heard that was $15 per book, but it could have gone up a bit since then. They don't tend to like handling individual authors' books unless you've got ten or more available at once for them to list, also from the last time I heard anything about them.

I had to let my Epic membership lapse due to lack of funds when renewal time came, or I'd ask on the list if anyone's heard of ePress-Online. Have you tried googling them?

The ebook publisher is ePress-Online and its affiliated with Fictionwise. I went to the Fictionwise site and noticed that there is a $1,000 setup fee. Is that true of all ebook publishers?
