About Me:
Colin Cotterill was born in London in 1952. He trained as a teacher and worked in Israel, Australia, the US, and Japan before training teachers in Thailand and on the Burmese border. He spent several years in Laos, initially with UNESCO and wrote and produced a forty-programme language teaching series; English By Accident, for Thai national television. Ten years ago, Colin became involved in child protection in the region. He is still involved in social projects and has recently set up a book and scholarship programme for his beloved Laos (www.colincotterill.com)
All the while, Colin continues with his two other passions; cartooning and writing. .His work with trafficked children stimulated him to put together his first novel, The Night Bastard (Suk's Editions. 2000). Since October 2001 he has written nine more books: Evil in the Land Without (Asia Books December 03), The Role of Pool in Asian Communism (Asia Books, Dec 05), The Coroner’s Lunch (Soho Press. Jan 05), Thirty Three Teeth (Soho Aug 05) Disco for the Departed (Aug 06), Anarchy and Old Dogs (Aug 07) these last four set in Laos in the 1970’s. The fifth book in the Dr. Siri series, Curse of the Pogo Stick , has just been completed.
Since 1990, Colin has been a regular cartoonist for national publications and produced a Thai language translation of his cartoon scrapbook, Ethel and Joan Go to Phuket (Matichon May 04) and an anthology of his bilingual magazine column ‘Cycle Logical’ (Matichon 06). Colin is married and lives in Chumphon in the south of Thailand where he decapitates coconuts and rides his bicycle along the coast.

Books And Authors I Like:
Usually non-fiction. Most anything by Paul Theroux and Bill Bryson, and any old travel books. My favourite of these is A Dragon Apparent by Norman Lewis
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
I don't have 'favourites' as the shows and movies i like change with the seasons. i recently got addicted to The West Wing (pirated edition). Movies usually hit the spot once then get old in a hurry.

Welcome aboard. I'm sure you'll like it here.

    Hi,
I check the Members tab just about every day and see who has been added. If I recognize the name, I'll usually ask to be added on as a friend. I'm sure I've seen your name for the SOHO books.

As for the Amazon numbers, I'm only behind a half million others now so I'm doing quite well. Just wait until there's an actual book out...
  • James R. Benn

Hi Colin, from a fellow Soho guy. Who's your stony-faced pal?

    Welcome aboard Colin
  • Karen from AustCrime

Hey Colin - nice to see you here. Thank GOODNESS for Text Publishing here - I no longer have to order your books by slow canoe from the UK :)
  • Karen from AustCrime

Well - no pressure but writing faster would be nice - and it's nice to know we're beating the UK - must have been the US or somewhere - but I remember everyone talking about your first book and getting very desperate to get hold of it :) :)
  • Mary Saums

Hi, there - If you don't mind, could you please write three or four Dr Siri books a year from now on? :) I love him. And Geung and Dtui. Nice to see you here.
  • Jennifer Jordan

    I agree with Mary.

Speaking at you whilst you had no voice (in Madison) was entertaining. For me.

    Long may you sit.

Okay, whose the guy with you in the picture? What's the state of libraries in Thailand? My book, The Beatitudes, is a paranormal thriller set in New Orleans. It will be out in the fall and I am donating all royalties directly to the New Orleans Public Library Foundation. Libraries support the infrastructure of a great city, so I have started The Beatitudes Network to promote awareness of the importance of public libraries in NOLA.
The blogsite www.beatitudesinneworleans.blogspot.com describes the Network, has excerpts from The Beatitudes, recipes, and more. Merci mille fois. Lyn Lejeune.

Hi Colin--did you ever get to Italy?
  • Donna Moore

Hiya - the button thing worked - you did good :o) That was a good evening, wasn't it? David and McKenna are lovely hosts. Hope to see you again at a bookstore or convention. Don't suppose you'll be at Bouchercon in Alaska will you?
  • Donna Moore

Sadly no - much as I would like to, I won't be in the vicinity of Thailand any time soon. Hope to see you at either Crimefest or Harrogate next year maybe. If you're over doing a booktour in the UK let me know (especially if your tour takes in Scotland!)
  • Lyn LeJeune

    Colin;
Greetings: Just to let you know that my New Orleans noir mystery, The
Beatitudes, has received 5 starred reviews! I am donating all royalties to the New Orleans Public Library Foundation to help rebuild the public libraries. I have posted Chapter I on my blog www.beatitudesinneworleans.blogspot.com. Please read and if you like it, help rebuild a library for NOLA. Thank you Lyn LeJeune
  • Darren Laws

g'day to you too and a very happy 2008!

    Hi Colin
Your work and travels are admirable. Too bad about the title. I like explicit. But sadly, the marketers are usually right.
