YOUR FIRST COMMENT: Hi and welcome, Christine! Great to see you here. all the best!
  • Jean Henry Mead

Hi, Chrstine! I'm a fellow historical and mystery writer but haven't as yet combined the two genres. I look forward to reading your books.
  • Christine Duncan

No,I haven't heard of those folks, and I don't see them listed on Epic (epicauthors.com) the group for epubbed authors and publishers, or the Piers Anthony site--and frankly he gets around to all the epubs eventually--and seems to know a heck of a lot about the pubs he writes about. How did they get your name?
  • Jean Henry Mead

The ebook publisher is ePress-Online and its affiliated with Fictionwise. I went to the Fictionwise site and noticed that there is a $1,000 setup fee. Is that true of all ebook publishers?
  • Pepper Smith

Jean, who was charging the $1000? Reputable epubs don't charge a set-up fee to publish your book. Fictionwise is a bookstore, but they do charge a fee to process publishers books and put them online at the store. Last I heard that was $15 per book, but it could have gone up a bit since then. They don't tend to like handling individual authors' books unless you've got ten or more available at once for them to list, also from the last time I heard anything about them.

I had to let my Epic membership lapse due to lack of funds when renewal time came, or I'd ask on the list if anyone's heard of ePress-Online. Have you tried googling them?
  • Pepper Smith

Okay, just checked over at Absolute Write. There are no bad reports as far as I could see. They sell the ebook through Fictionwise, and make it available in print through Lulu. So I guess it depends, there, on what you want.
  • Jean Henry Mead

Thanks, Christine! Have you had a good relationship with your publisher? And do ebooks sell comparitively with print editions? I'm also glad to have you for a friend!
  • Pepper Smith

You do know Elizabeth Peters and Barbara Michaels are the same author, right? She just tends to write more into the supernatural as Barbara Michaels.
  • Christine Duncan

Okay, got it. ePressonline is a member of EPIC (a good sign) but Piers Anthony seems to confirm that they charge for fictionwise (15.00) which I have never seen done. Writer's exchange sure doesn't and yes, I like Sandy Cummins from there. Neither does Trebleheart. Trebleheart will put them in print for nothing too if Lee like you. Sandy charges the setup fee (not the editing, cover, ISBN or any of that but just the setup fee for print only--which varies according to how many of her authors are wanting print at the moment--usually somewhere about 100.00. I just have my 2nd book out with her in e format (the free one). Lee (trebleheart) is looking at it for print.

Thank you for your condolences, Christine. Sorry for the late reply. I need a new computer. . . I'm just now seeing the comments from you and Pepper from June. ePress-online published a reprint of my historical novel and it's supposed to be on Amazon.com next week. I wasn't charged anything for the Fictionwise listing, where my book, Escape, is currently #1 on their sales list, probably because it's ePress's newest release. I'm so new to ebook publishing that I don't know what to expect. . . but it's certainly helped to take my mind off my loss, at least temporarily.
