I'm the author of the Frank Coffin mysteries, HIGH SEASON (2007) and MATING SEASON (2009), both from St. Martin's Minotaur. The third book in the series, FIRE SEASON, will be released in July of 2012. I'm also the author of two books of poetry: VANITAS MOTEL and THE PLEASURE PRINCIPLE, from Oberlin College Press. I live in West-Central Wisconsin, where I teach creative writing and literature at the college level.
I like mysteries and literary fiction, poetry and memoir. My literary gods are Chandler, P.G. Wodehouse, and the poet Charles Wright.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
I like old stuff with old guys in it: Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Sean Connery, Bogart, et al. Also, Mad Men. I suspect I'd like The Wire if I ever got around to watching it.
Yeah, I tossed it. It's all over the web, and after I found out the entire interview hasn't even been published yet, I thought it might be better to hold off.
Ion,
Thanks for your comments on my web discussion of "creative license." I sure did stir up a lot of dust. That was my intention. However, I think I "bent" the feathers of some of the screenwriters out there. But it's nice to hear the wide array of opinions and thoughts. It's sure is educational.

Jon,
I am vindicated!!! When I booted up the computer this morning, guess what popped up on MSN? An article entitled, "How Hollywood takes good books and makes them into bad movies." Somebody up there likes me!!. Great article. You ought to read it.

I keep trying to find you in various Wisconsin book sellers with no success. Got any retailers in central Wisconsin who carry your work? I'd order it online, but I like to support the brick-and-mortar shops as much as possible.
It was indeed a great piece on NPR this morning. If you haven't already, you can expect to see some literary tourists clogging up Commercial Street as they rubberneck, trying to discern the real locations in the books from the made up ones! At least literary-minded tourists are a lot more mindful of the locals than your standard version that you skewer so well ...and they aren't likely to come in an oversized mobilehome (and if they've read your books faithfully they'll know to keep an eye out for bicyclists).
No sweat on the late answer. If you're working it's hard to touch all bases, write, promote and have a life. Hope sales are good. My transmission still needs some help.
I've spent a lot of time in P-town (I live in Madison, WIsconsin). I saw that you livei n Western Wisconsin? A friend gave me your book High Season which I loved. I'm starting Mating Season tonight (I was suprised that I had to order it from Amazon.com).
Had an agent. She was charming, marvelous, but didn't get the job done. I need someone who is as persistent in marketing as I am. currently lloking for a good agent to represent my third suspense novel.
Hi JON! Yup, it's Jon Loomis - the Mental Health / Family Therapist from Auburn, NY - proving the addage that "it takes one to know one". I had gotten home in the wee hours of the morning after enjoying a couple "Jack Daniels" and happened upon the site (having signed on in very silly fashion). This site seems VERY interesting. I'd love to read some of your work. Could you recommend something for a first time reader?
Thanks, Jon, for the suggestion re: your book. I'll look for it. I assume I could order it via Amazon? Yes, since your family hails from Utica -you are probably more closely related to the gang than I am. Thanks for responding. Keep in touch.
Jon

Yeah, I closed it. I thought it was time to move on to something else. Appreciate your input. Why don't you start a discussion?
