Here's what Jeffery Deaver had to say about my book

"A masterpiece . . . Police Procedure and Investigation offers everything, I mean everything, an author--novelist or nonfiction--needs to know about law enforcement: from police headquarters and laboratories to crime scenes to courthouses to jails. And Author Lofland pulls off another coup--he's managed to give us this encyclopedia of information in a style that's crisp, concise and damn fun to read. "

--Jeffery Deaver, author of The Sleeping Doll and The Bone Collector

I'm also the director and host of the Writers' Police Academy, an exciting and action-packed event where writers receive hands-on training in police procedure, investigation, and forensics. Keynote speakers have included Lee Child, Jeffery Deaver, and Lisa Gardner.

  • Jennie Msangi

Hi Lee! I checked out the blog! Gross but cool. I have to do some research on the guns used for big game hunting for my next book. And I wish I would have found your book before I finalized my current book.

I never would have thought that getting fingerprints would be that involved. I thought you take the hand, slap on some ink and then press. That was really interesting.
  • Lee Lofland

Hi Katie. That is pretty much all that's involved if you're taking them from a live person, such as a criminal suspect. It lifting prints from a crime scene or from a dead body that gets a little more troublesome.
  • L.J. Sellers

    Hi Lee
I read your blog about the shoot out. Fascinating. I see people in movies take bullets and keep functioning/ shooting and I always thought it was bullshit. What courage it takes to be a police officer! Thanks for sharing this painful but important story.
  • HappyRuby

Thanks for the invite. I'll check out your website. Lots of good authors on your list.

  • Eileen Hawkins

Hi, thanks for the invitation. Looks like you have a lot of stories to tell.
  • Eileen Hawkins

Your story about "Taking Bacon" reminded me of something that happened to me. Check out my blog for the story of my drama.

Lee, I met Hallie last year at Pennwriters and just adore her. I didn't start reading her stuff until afterwards. Now I'm digging up all her old books to catch up on. She's supposed to be at the Festival of Mystery later this month, so I'll get to see her there, too.
  • Wayne Burman

Hi Lee, Thanks for the add. Just getting into this. Good to make a few contacts. ATB Wayne

I know Bothell very well! I actually live in north Kirkland and a block away it is Bothell. In fact I lived in Bothell before too. It is always easier to say Seattle though on the internet..no one knows where Kirkland is! How long did you live here and when did you leave?
I know my husband would love to live in Boston..he loves the Red Sox!

    Hi Lee:

I'm busy this morning getting all signed up for the Willamette Writers Conference and noticed you are going, too. I'm one of the authors being "raffled" off this year, so have a bio, picture, etc. I have to submit to them. I actually saw you at the conference two years ago and wanted to say "hi" but you looked like you were pretty busy getting set up for your presentation. Hope to meet you this time around, though. I will be arriving on Thursday, for Writers Faire. See you there!
  • K.R. Lewis

Hey, no arm twisting necessary. You won't even have to tase me! I will be in touch.
  • Jeff Ross

    Lee,
Thanks so much for your website. I check it every day and read it constantly. It is an amazing source of information. I was away for a couple of weeks and when I returned I was pleased to find the Outer Banks as the roadtrip. That's where I had just been! And a couple of the photos match ones I took almost exactly.
Nevertheless, thanks for all your work.
  • Jeff Ross

Are all of those weekend road trips by you? If so, wow, that's a lot of travel.
Did you get stuck in that crazy storm? It took us almost 10 hours to get down from Baltimore to Duck.
  • Lee Lofland

Each of the trips are mine with the exception of Africa and Colorado (I have been to Colorado several times). Terry Odell shared those with us.

    Thankfully, I missed the storm.
  • Yvonne Mason

Thank you for the add. If you have seen my site you know what I write and you also know how hard that can be. I am very appreciative of you and your work. I look forward to many conversations with you.

Glad to have you as a friend, Lee. I'd like to add my thanks for the Graveyard Shift and Police Procedural!
  • Dawn M. Kravagna

Sorry to take so long to respond back, Lee. I'm still trying to get the hang of this site. I live in Cedar Downs, which is across from the Maple Valley Golf Course. I just bought your Police Procedure and Investigation book. I'm really excited about it. Looks like it's chalk full of really good information. I was glad to see that I got the ME/coroner information correct in the Amazon Short I submitted a month ago. Was kind of horrified to read that they aren't filtering/boiling the fluids from corpses firstly before introducing them back into the public system. And that episode about the matter splashing onto your face: funny and totally horrific. I would've passed out or screamed firstly and then passed out. (I had skipped ahead.) I'm really looking forward to finishing it. I think it'll be a big help to me in my mystery writing (although I'm writing talking animal detective/cop stories...). Thanks for taking the time to write it and share your expertise with us neophytes.
  • Lisa Perry

Hey Lee, Great to find you on CrimeSpace! (i'm on crimescenewriters, too). Love your Graveyard Shift blog. One of my favorite sites, you're great at what you do, thanks for letting us not-so-knowledgable in on the inner workings of an investigator. Very informative info, i appreciate you!

    Lisa :)

  • Wilfred Bereswill

    Thanks for the add, Lee.
  • Wilfred Bereswill

I may need to be a full time author. Of course I'll be starving. We're crossing our fingers. Thanks for asking.
  • Lydia Sadler

Hello Lee. Thank you for inviting me to be your friend.
I notice we have quite a few favorite authors in common, but you are the first one I have seen that included Agatha Cristie. Sue Grafton responded to my fan letter. I have been carrying it around since I got it.
I will be reading your book.
  • J. Michael Jenne

    Dear Lee,

Hi, Lee. I just read in my MMA web group that you just had surgery. I hope that you recover quickly and will say a prayer for you tonight. Enjoying your book so far. Will give you mucho stars on Amazon when I've finished it. Hilarious scene on your first autopsy, but think I would've fainted, myself. Take care. Been too busy to be active in the ring the past Fall, but had to wish you well. Dawn
  • Dawn M. Kravagna

Hi, Lee. I haven't been online for a while: was sick for a month with this intense cold/cough virus. How are you doing with recovery from your surgery? I hope you're doing much better now. Dawn
  • Dawn M. Kravagna

Sorry to hear that you had a rough time of it, but am glad you're better. Am enjoying your book very much. I'm on vacation this week, so I'll be sure to keep you in my prayers. Have a great Thanksgiving. You have been a great blessing to the mystery writing community!

Hi Lee,I'm very new to all of this, a babe in the woods, and also very technologically challenged. I live about 15 miles give or take, north of Boston. I'm just sticking my proverbial toes in the real literary water as of right now. It will be awhile before I produce anything substantiative, I'm sure. I hope to make many new friends here. I also see that we enjoy many of the same authors.
    Mary
  • Dawn M. Kravagna
