About Me:
I live in a small city in the East of England and currently work in the legal profession. I have enjoyed writing since I was a kid but unfortunately haven't yet managed to finish a novel, which I admit is shameful. Plots and or characters seem to come to me when I least expect it but at some point I invariably get stuck. At present I have an idea for a detective story but I'm still unsure as to where this is going exactly.

My favorite genres are crime fiction, fantasy, paranormal stories and a mixture of the above. My taste is quite eclectic generally and I also enjoy the classics and even period dramas. I'm hoping to get some inspiration from this site and to make likeminded friends.

Stephen King, Bernard Cornwell, Agatha Christie, P D James, H P Lovecraft, Edgar Alan Poe, Kafka, Herman Hesse, Terry Pratchett, Tolkien, Dan Brown, J K Rowling, Jim Butcher, Carlos Ruiz Zafon, Ernest Hemingway, Isabel Allende, Thomas Hardy, Jane Austen ... to name but a few. This list, if it ever was a list is not in order of preference by the way, it's what randomly came to my mind. I just love too many authors.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Criminal Minds, CSI, Supernatural, cookery programs, sad I know but life style programs involving property (I am a property lawyer) lol, antique shows also.

Films well too many to mention. Cloak Back Orange is probably my favourite because of the psychological and sociological content. Certainly not family viewing though. This is odd for me because I don't normally like it that violent...

    Self-conscious about writing?
    Within the past few hours I've talked to two friends who are trying to write and have ideas, but they get blocked by self-consciousness. It's a common problem--and it's a killer for creativity. Don't try to write something that's going to please other people. Try to write something that's only going to please your harshest critic--yourself.

    And surely don't try to write something that will appeal to everyone. There's never been a book, story or article that's had universal appeal. I mean the best-selling book in the world is the Bible, and there are LOTS of people who don't like that. So if God can't write a book with universal appeal, who the hell are we to try? Relax. The more you can have fun writing, the better your writing will be.

    I've just taken a break from my writing efforts to launch a blog – CrimeTimePreview.

    I'm previewing the latest crime dramas and thrillers to hit the telly, from Marple to Law & Order: UK and Martin Scorsese's Boardwalk Empire.

    I thought it would be pretty straightforward, but it's almost a full time job. Anyway now I'll try to squeeze some more writing in too.
