Hi Rose. Welcome! I'm still learning how to maneuver around here. I enjoy clicking on everyone's pics and reading their bios. If they have a website or blog, sometimes I check it out too. However, I'm probably Queen of the Prostinators...or maybe Princess Time Waster. :) There are some good discussions. Be sure to check out the contest.. It has to do with around Australia so might enjoy entering. :)

Yikes! Rose, that was supposed to be Queen of the Procrastinators! How embarrassing. And now I'm wondering if embarassing has two Rs or one, two Ss or one. Why did I get out of bed!?!
  • DADavenport

    Hey Wozie!
I can't believe you found your way here. What a wonderful surprise! Welcome aboard. Snoop around and you'll see why I rave about this place. It's my home away from home away from home!
    Love ya,
    Deb
  • DADavenport

Sure do. How's the piece going for S&T?

Just wander. The forums are broken down into categories and the latest 3-4 of each show. But press view all and you can scan tons of topics. Same with the blogs. It is a great place for learning about everything crime writing. Cool input from a lot of very focused and motivated people.

    See ya, wild Aussie Woman!

Rose, best of luck to you in the pursuit of your dream to become a writer. I started writing again when life handed me a golden opportunity--my job got outsourced overseas, and I finally had more time to write. I loved turning a lemon into lemonade, lol.

Hey Rose, I'm considering a move to Sydney. Any Aussie mysteries I should check out? jo@activebladder.com
    thanks, johnny ostentatious

Hi Rose - looks like Melbourne's the home of Australian Crime (perhaps it's all the underworld stuff recently - suddenly we all feel "involved") :)

    Welcome to Crimespace
  • Karen from AustCrime

Hi Rose - I'm not a member (but I should be). I've always been too much of a sook to head down off the mountain to Leo's Spaghetti Bar - I only got to the city for the writer's festival and if I'm dragged kicking and screaming [VBEG]

One day I'll stop the sooking and join up.

Hi Rose - I am in the Dandenongs, you're offer is very kind - didn't realise that the Scarlet Stilettos were upcoming - I think I'm starting to feel the pull of Leo's :) The book was fabulous - I got my copy from Borders in the end - same as you I was digging around all over the place and then bang .. it popped up in Borders at Knox City, just when I'd about given up hope of seeing it :)

I shall have to negotiate some time off for good behaviour with himself - I confess that my next door neighbour and I are booked to see Ian Rankin and Shane Maloney at the Collins Street Baptist Church (she does the city much more often and doesn't seem at all fazed by the idea of being there amongst all those people! :) ) so I'll have to see if I can beg another outing!

(We're joint babysitting a very ill dog at the moment, normally this sort of thing doesn't require "permission")

    What day are the Stiletto's?
  • Karen from AustCrime

Rose - that's really very kind of you - I'll open negotiations tonight with a bribery dinner - he'll know I'm up to something, but that's nothing new around here :)

I found the newsletter on the Sisters website - so I'll put the details up as an event on mine as well - thanks for the pointer on the date!

I see what you mean about the logo. Actually I think you're right!

"Morning, Wozie. You've been a busy girl! I was too yesterday. Submitted all over the place!

Haven't gotten word yet on my submission to How'd They Do That? other than being held for further consideration. I understand they had around 200 submissions, alot of which were in the last several weeks. Since they want 15 to 20 stories for the Anthology, that's stiff competition, and about 4 more weeks to wait to hear!!!

Submitted the hurricane story to an Ezine, and the little Flash piece about the Buddhist monk, to a wonderful looking ezine that seemed perfect for it. Back to the waiting game.

When will you hear from Celepene Press on the gourmet story?

    Best,
    Deb

You're certainly welcome! I am American born but have resided in the UK for over 20 years and see things through different eyes and have done for many years. No Rose you're quite right. that culture is so ingrained people don't even see things some times! Don't you worry! I don't like a gun culture and happened to have stayed in England after my first marriage was over based on that to a great extent!
Welcome to the site and please stay in touch! i sometimes get fed up and don't go on the site as much as I did. But I do go on every now and then just to see what's going on. all the best to you rose!
  • carole gill

i live in West Yorkshire. Near WAkefield. My husband is from a farm and me--! i'm from Manhattan! but it's lovely here and I wouldn't live in a big city again! you're right about the m 25. • carole gill

thanks for that! if we can we'll say Good day, Mate! (in person)! You bet. I think I still have a strong American accent, although people in NY say I don't sound the same! so who knows?!
  • Karen from AustCrime

Rose - thank you for the email and my apologies for not responding that way - your return to address is failing with permanent fatal errors which seems a bit fatal. But I added both those Sisters in Crime events and hope more people will join in.
  • Rose Mercer

Don't you just hate them there "fatal errors"? See you soon then! If I'm not driving you, make sure you come and introduce yourself, ok?
  • carole gill

I bet the Oz experience is a real Bottler! (just looked up some Oz Slang!
    G'day, Mate!
  • carole gill

  • carole gill

anyway, thanks for your good wishes. we feel rotten at the moment. chat soon!
  • Johnny Ostentatious

Thanks for that list of Sydney mystery writers, Rose!
  • Johnny Ostentatious

I'm gonna vacation in Sydney sometime in '08, just to make sure I dig the city (I think I will, though). Then I'll work on moving down. Sounds like it's tough to get a working visa, but I'm pleasantly persistent ;)
  • Kathryn Lilley

Hi Rose! Thanks for your note about the blog. That post about "scary finger food" was written by my co-blogger, Camille Minichino, who always has very creative ideas!
  • Karen Allingham

    Hi Rose, how's it going?
  • Karen Allingham

Hi Rose, well my writing has stalled a bit, temporarily, as well, due to the fact that our shop has been busy with the back-to-school thing. But, as February is usually a quiet month I will launch back into it, with gusto. By the way, that 'spinning the wheels' analogy of Sue Grafton's that you told me about at the Scarlet Stiletto night has really stuck in my mind, so I am at present building characters for my first novel. Let's both make '08 our year!
  • Rose Mercer

LOL, Karen. Trouble is, now my wheels are firmly stuck in the mud. Hmm... Good luck with the characters. I keep feeling so far out of my depth with a full on novel - where do I start, how do I go about it? I tried the whole character thing and got so bogged down, then felt constrained by what I'd decided for them. Here's hoping you're right and 08 is our year to get going!
  • Karen from AustCrime

Hi Rose - I wasn't too sure if we would get there but in the end I dragged along the husband and the neighbours and we had a great night - very timely as well as I read Eden and Trojan Dog not so long ago, now I have to get to Alison and Liz's books :)

The new venue seemed really good (not that I saw the old one of course), but the pub's own beer on tap was very very nice :)

Hopefully I'll make the next one as well - I'll know closer to the day I guess.
