DON’T TAKE YOUR GUNS TO TOWN

South Boston, MA:

Guys that look like me don’t do well in prison.

They just don’t, it’s proven fact. If you’re not one of the blacks or the Mexicans or the skinheads or the chinks, you’re in no man’s land and you might as well kill yourself on the first night because you’d only last two days, maybe a week tops and that’s if you get yourself thrown in solitary. If you’re just an average guy who’s not… Continue

RITE OF PASSAGE

Charleston, South Carolina – 1995:

If the frigid, stifling December air inside the car could somehow allow me to move my hand, the anxiety alone would surely object. I attempt to take just one tiny peek at the three-inch scar running diagonally across my palm, the one that forever connects me to Ryno, Dax, Yaya and Eddie. My best friends in the world, the ones who choreographed me through my most significant rite of… Continue

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

Great instrument. I just moved to Wyoming and went to a pretty sweet Irish festival in Ft. Collins, CO. Some great bands and brews, lots of pipes and pints.

Liam, I don't have an agent yet. I went the small press route instead, where agents aren't always required. I met with a couple of agents, but none liked my style.

Having said that, though, the agents were quite open to query letters and had plenty of ideas as to how I could make my stuff more "commercial." Often I think I should have listened to them.

Good luck, your stuff is definitely good enough.

I had one of the best agents in LA for a year, two deals fell through in the last stages and, in my opinion, he lost interest in me. So I repped myself and found a multi-book contract at a publisher he could have tried but didn't. So I saved myself 15%. Draw yoour own conclusions.

Many top agents do not respond to e mail except by specific request. Also Philip is old school, so for him paper is preferable and easier to read (old eyes tire easily). Hope this helps.

Liam,
I read your chapter. Interesting stuff. Did he rat her out? He's a Southie boy eh? Nice combo, a mick from Southie and an inscrutable chink assasin. My family's from Charlestown. We used to brawl with the kids from Southie all the time. Crazy drunk kids with shamrock tats and serious attitude problems. My great uncle was the mayor of Boston back in the 30's. If it wasn't for family connections I'd be doing a two years in Billerica. Both our towns are named for King Charles II, a known hater of the Irish. I hope you're working on your book and it's coming along well. Just watched a film called 'In Bruges', great flick. Good luck.

Thanks for adding me to you list of friends. I'm right down the road from you in Hilton Head. Great list of authors. Some great crime fiction coming out of the emerald isle. Have you read Declan Hughes, Gene Kerrigan, or Brian McGilloway? Wonderful stuff. Hoist a pint for me up in Charleston. Take care.
