Good Morning Detective Lofland,

I am so honored to be counted among your friends on CrimeSpace.
I actually saw the invite yesterday evening, but did not have time to respond. I went to your most impressive web site this morning, and I was very surprized to see "Police Procedure & Investigations", by LEE LOFLAND. I bought your book on amazon last year, and it is NOT in my book case, it is right next to my computer, right next to Forensics (by D.P Lyle, M.D.). I want to take this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoy your FACT based book, and it serves me well as an authoritative reference.
I see you will be in Florida in April at a conference. I WILL BE THERE!

I was a K-9 Handler in the USAF (Combat Defense Squadron-Air Police), never a detective. I have finally (after 13 years (off-and-on) had my novel published. THE EXECUTION of JUSTICE, is based on the murder of a very close friend and mentor (Detective Sergeant Jack Orhberg - Robbery & Homicide Division of the Indianapolis Police Department). While writing this novel, I was also employed full time as Chief Investigator for a prominent Coral Gables (FL) Law firm, specializing in criminal defense.
This novel was extremely hard to write, because; 1. Jack was a very good friend, and 2. I was not there, so I relied on research in Indianapolis (talking with officers I knew well, who were present; newspaper articles, and court records). The novel, written in first person POV, I insert myself as his partner, and a parts of the novel are based on actual incidents.

My novel is the debut of "Detective Mike Walsh" novels. It will be followed by "JUSTICE DELAYED", and "INSANE JUSTICE", which are fictionalzed novels based on two murder cases I worked on for the firm.

In 1994, while employed at the law firm, I co-authored "DAVID JANSSEN-MY FUGITIVE"; the Biography of the late Golden Globe Winning, EMY noominated actor, Written with his first wife, Ellie Janssen. The moderate success of the book made my career change decision easy. Now, I write about something I know.

This novel is my first foray into the world of publishing (with the Janssen book, we were represented and not privy to the behind-the-scenes macinations of publishing). It is a learning experience, and scary too.

After seeing your great web site, I feel very inadequate.

I would lie to send you a copy of my novel, and would appreciate your review.

Sincerely,

Michael Phelps
(The WRITER . . . NOT the good looking kid with all the Gold)
