Self-Published Sunday Jason McIntyre Shed

Question: if you follow this blog do you think I have read all of this author’s work? The correct answer is yes, yes, and yes again. What can I say; his incredible style and substance grew on me. I was a bit skeptical
at first because of the types of novels he wrote, the shocking, twisted type of
thing. He said maybe it isn’t my speed, but give one of his digital shorts a
go. I read Road Markers, loved it. Then I tried The Night Walk Men & On the
Gathering Storm, they blew my mind, I loved them. Thalo Blue , I can’t say
anything about yet, that is for a future post. The only one I haven’t read yet
was Shed.

The plotline at first glance was not my thing, but I thought why not give it a try I have been impressed with all his other work to date. Here is the synopsis of it from his Smashwords page: ”Simon and Rupert spend
their days playing in the fields out near the old power station but at night, a
visitor comes for them. Older brother Simon shoulders the burden of their
stepfather Everett and his greedy dominion over their Mama. But the brothers
must now stand together to heal the wounds of their real father’s departure and
brace themselves for a harrowing showdown with Everett.”

Okay, having read that, here are my thoughts on this. The reason that I have enjoyed Jason McIntyre’s work so much is this, get a paper and pen please to take copious notes:

-Character development-regardless of how short or long the story is, McIntyre has gotten me to care and identify with his main characters. I get emotionally vested in these people and I really want to get to the outcome, and
after that I want more, much more.

-Suspense- One of my favorites. His pacing is awesome. He builds pressure and tension very, very well.

-Variety- Hey, I have read all his published works and they are all different, intense, and moving.

-Endings- They rock. I think I said enough on that.

One would ask at this point what I think of Shed. Well, all of the above. He incorporates all that and much more. I have the feeling each time I read a Jason McIntyre work that I am being slowly ratcheted up a roller
coaster to its highest point and then sent spiraling down, feelings of fear and
exhilaration at the same time. I just don’t want to put the novel or digital
short down. Taking the ride with Rupert and Simon is all that. If you find my
opinion to be a bit one sided, then read one of his works and test my words, I
think that you will find that they ring true. There is a reason he has so many
novels in the top of the best seller category at Smashwords, quality is
quality.
