My photo is of me zip linging over the forest in Puerta Vallarta, for Christmas 2007.
I own a restaurant with my husband, and a jewelry design business which specializes in inspirational jewelry, and mom jewelry.
I have published articles in business magazines, and I also wrote a book on hiking in Iowa.
I live on a small farm with my husband, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 horses (down from 4).
I'm currently working on a cozy mystery, having finished my previous manuscript.
Stuart Woods, Robert B. Parker, Gemma Halliday, Janet Evanovich, Lois Greiman, Jane Smiley, MaryJanice Davidson, Marian Keyes, Jane Green, Michael Connelly, Lawrence Block, Elmore Leonard. And about a 100 more I can't think of off the top of my head. Now I'll be adding more, since I have more authors to read, after having linked up here.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Burn Notice, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, Days of our Lives, Six Degrees
Hey Jamie, great to meet you. So glad you enjoyed SPYING IN HIGH HEELS! That always means twice as much coming from another writer.
And I can’t wait to read about a Santa Cruz detective! That’s pretty much where I grew up, so I can totally see what a great setting for series that is. Best of luck in the Stiletto! Be sure to post how it goes. It’s my fav contest. Then again, I’m biased because it’s the one I originally wrote SPYING for, which has turned out to be a really good thing for me. :)
Enjoy your weekend!
Okay, I entered the Stiletto at the last minute, so they would have enough entries to fill the Chick Thrill categorie. The entry wasn't as polished as I'd like, and of course I didn't make the finalists. I'm bummed, but I'm looking forward to the feedback.
The funny thing (really not so funny), my computer crashed before I had backup up my ms, and I lost the original. I had a night of fitfull sleep because of the computer crash, and came up with a much better start. So the manuscript looks nothing like the one I sent to the contest.
Bummer about not finaling. But you know, these things are always a crapshoot. Great books slip through all the time. And, it sounds like yours has had a major overhaul since then anyway. Let’s hope the new version is The One!
And I’m so glad you’re enjoying our Killer Fiction blog! When we started it I was so worried we’d spend weeks talking to the air with no responses. Lol! I’ve never had a blog before, so I admit, I’m really enjoying this.
Welcome! I am newt, slithering from the shallow end of the gene pool, into the open ocean. Sharks are liely to eat me befor the salt water kills me, but who wants a quiet life?
*****SERIOUS RANTING TO FOLLOW****
Talk about the blues. So I didn't make the Stiletto finals. Kinda bummed, but Sunday is my day off from the restaurant, and I planned to finish some jewelry orders I had pending, and then spent the rest of the day writing!
You know, jump back on the horse, hair of the dog...
Yeah, right!!!
One of the teenagers who works (let me rephrase, worked) for us decided not to show up for work. Oh, he knew he worked, but he decided to go to a local function instead. He'd known about it since Thursday, and didn't try to get his shift covered until 2pm on Sunday. Well, that late, no one was available, and he just didn't come to work. So alas, I didn't get to write. And now I'm just pissed off. It means I'll be working about 18 days in a row, without a day off.
On top of that, his dad called and bitched my husband out for calling the kid's cell phone to tell him he was supposed to be at work. The idiot said we are too hard on our teenagers. OH PULEEEEEZZZZZ!!
What about teaching your kid some responsibility. On days like this, I miss the corporate life.
Ahhhhh, now my breathing has returned to normal.
Ah Jamie: The pleasures of owning your own independent business! Up at 5 in the morning, buying groceries, looking over the menu, making sure everything is in place, dealing with vendors, checking the schedule (and re-checking the schedule), paying the vendors, paying the help, resolving a dozen crises and all that before NOON!! I love restauranteurs, but I know I could *never* do it!
Ever notice politicians always talk about small businesses, the family business. the family farm and have all these nods to working men and women who are out there in the trenches with their own small enterprises, and yet the policies -- and this runs from City Council to Congress -- they enact end up hurting these same small businesses while benefiting the mega conglomerates that pop up like malignant mushrooms to syphon off the good will and customers you've spent a generation building?
Gee, now look who's ranting!
Do you take suggestions on your next novel? If so, how about a restauranteur who solves crimes as she managers a stylish, popular and yet so friendly litte bistro. Possible titles: "Murder As A Side Dish"; "Homicide: Life on the Platter"; "Fatal Entree" and "Death Salad".
Thanks for adding me. You and your husband own a restaurant? OMG! Next to writing romantic mysteries, cooking is my passion. I took up both late in life. During my first career in management in the telecommunications industry, somebody else cleaned my house and we ate mostly in restaurants. My how life has changed...
Owning a restaurant has probably given you excellent food to eat as well as food for thought. Stuart Woods is one of my guilty pleasures, but I'm now trying to read *Iron Orchad* and not getting very far. Maybe I'm just a *Stone Barrington* fan, although I did like his earlier books.
Since you have a WIP, we'll look for you in Novelist's Boot Camp! And don't forget, the panel application (no guarantees) drop dead date is 1 November! Remember to remember that post it note to register!
