I write under a pen name. I am a recently retired peace officer and I write about the system from the inside out. I don't live where I worked for personal reasons. I have writen two police procedural novels in a series with a female protagonist. At the moment I am seeking an agent.

    Actually Sunday is critique day. In fact I'm leaving in an hour for the meeting. My "kick back and do nothing day is Monday." I have lots of lunches on Monday. Love what I'm doing... don't think I'll make it to Maine this year. bummer

    I have two series, one of which is in publication -- the James Early mystery series. This one is set in 1949-50 Kansas and involves a sheriff. Yes, it's a western, but with Jeeps rather than horses. A short story writing contest sponsored by the Great Manhattan Mystery Conclave triggered the character of James Early and spawned the first two stories, one that grew out of the great flood of 1952 and the other out of a flood control project launched several years later -- real events in which I placed fictional stories. You can read those two stories on my website. Click on "short stories" and scroll down to "Dead Pool" and "Big Dam Foolishness".
    The second series is contemporary, set in southern Wisconsin where I live. As with the James Early series, I first created a character who to me is both interesting and carries a lot of baggage. This time it's a young female defense lawyer. She's a former sheriff's deputy and a Army National Guard MP who lost an arm and a leg in a booby trap in Iraq. The cases that come DL Quinn's way are drawn from real cases I found in newspapers.
