  • Carole Parker

Hey, I do my research. Didn't wanna get too obscure on their asses -- had to fight the urge to list Raoul Whitfiled, Paul Cain, Brett Halliday and William Cole. I live on planet noir, a dirty little orb on the dark side of the moon ...
  • Carole Parker

Oooh. I'll have to check that out. You should get an anthology I just read called HARD-BOILED, edited by Bill Pronzini and Jack Adrian. GREAT stuff, classic, hard-to-find rarities. I got it on Amazon.com used, in great condition for five bucks!
  • Carole Parker

Nice. Thanks for the tip. ' The Nameless Detective.' Sounds good. Will def check it out. Just got Andrew Vachss 'Terminal.' Cracking it open tonight.

After I clean my gun ...
  • Carole Parker

I didn't realize the hostility was that subtle. I'll have to work on that. Mr. Teel mentioned your all going to be a con this weekend. Sounds like fun. Have one for me afterwards. I'll be here on the left coast, up on the roof with my high-powered rifle.

As a blonde, I don't do highlights. And yes, heels are for sissies. Gimme my over-the-knee black leather boots any day.

I just got volume 2 of Mickey's collected work. Inhaled volume 1 a few months back and was fucking stunned. I met Max Allan Collins at a book expo this year (along with Eddie Muller, what a trip), and he had lots of great stories. RIP Mickey...
  • Carole Parker

I get what yer sayin,' but this dirty blonde don't do highlights. I have many kinds o' boots, and love my chunk-heeled black leather dom/biker boots that come just over the knee. They look great with camo pants, jeans or a short plaid skirt. So there. And, as a lipstick lez, i wear what the fuck I want. No man controls this babe's wardrobe -- malfunctions or not.

Amd I want to thank you very fucking much for that image of Teel you have burned into my brain. I'm afraid that I won't be able to shake it for days. Ug. Might have to go take out a few pigeons.

The con sounds fun. Will def check out your anthology. Sounds rockin.'

I actually teased Max and told him he looked like Elton John circa 'Madman Across the Water.' We all chuckled (his wife, Christa Faust, Eddie Muller and I), and then I felt kinda bad. I liked Max, and was just trying to be a funny bitch. Max rocks. Have you read his Quarry series? Badass shit.

What's funny about Mickey is a comment a well-known screenwriter friend said to me after reading WILSHIRE BOULEVARD -- 'my god, you are the female Spillane.'

Holy shit, I thought. I havent READ HIM YET. I started getting into this thing two years with reading all of Chandler, Hammett and Elrroy, and now had a new savior. I read I, THE JURY in four days, and was fucking hooked.

Have fun at the con. I'll have my cerveza and weed cookin' here at the beach crusin' up into Venice.

    XOXO

    The Bitch
  • Carole Parker

Smoked a fattie, cranked the tunes, and rode my beach crusier up to the Venice boardwalk. Checked out the freaks, came back, walked doggie, had lunch, and now have clear head for writing session.

    In a Teel-free zone.

My god, that sounds almost normal ...
  • Carole Parker

Yeah, Teel is a trip. Maybe some day we can all hang. I'm gonna try to go to the noir film festival in San Fran this January ...

Freaks are a way of life. Let your freak flag fly, I say. I come from a rich family of flag-waving repressed, Republican stuff-shirts. To say I'm the black sheep of the family is an understatement.
  • Carole Parker

I'm so fucking stoked. Ten days, a double feature every night -- many newly restored, long dormant noir flicks. And Eddie Muller! Hobnobbing with some of my favorite authors.

It doesn't get much better than that.

Yes, I am a crime whore.
  • Carole Parker

    Was that you last night?

I've actually just finished my Acme Freelance Assassin correspondence course, and will be leaving behind the sticky gas station bathrooms for my true calling in life. Killer for hire. First job is later this evening. I'm to show up at the Fow Chun Kim massage parlor in Koreatown in downtown LA. Apparently this is one ending that will NOT be happy ...
  • Carole Parker

Oh, yeah. I've seen that show. (LOVE Burn Notice.)

Actually, the first hit was this fat yuppie hedge fund manager. He was in his jacuzzi with a rent-a-blonde.

    Had to use TWO bullets...
  • Carole Parker

Wow. I get TWO shots. Acme didn't mention THAT. Nice. Popped the hooker like a cherry on a hot day. (Huh?) No witnesses.

BURN NOTICE is just fun fluff, but well done. And I love all the details about running ops. And that saucy brunette ...
  • Carole Parker

Exactly. It is a little jokey, but it's just a light entertainment. Or -- imagine if it was on the BBC, like MI5 (called SPOOKS here in the States). Now THAT'S down and dirty. A main character or two get killed every season. Including the lead!

Acme's doing okay with me. Today I'm heading for the local mall. Apparently there's a Santa that's been naughty, not nice with the little girls ...
  • Carole Parker

Will check out the Powers Booth series, for sure. Thank god for Netflix. Yes, check out MI5, it's unbelievably cool. Did I mention it was super-violent?

Bruce Campbell is the best thing on the show. Just the right combination of sleeze, alcoholism and sexism.

Santa's history. Left three of the elves crying. Next up?

My former boss who laid me off last month. Thank you, Acme ...
