I migrated to Australia from England more years ago than I care to remember. I have a crime novel, 'The Burning', out with Virtual Tales as an ebook(www.virtualtales.com and now available on mobipocket and fictionwise). It's a murder story set against the background of bushfires, which occur all too frequently in our hot, dry summers.
I also have a collection of short stories, 'Unfettered Feet', released with Ginninderra Press (www.ginninderrapress.com.au) in Canberra. Some of these stories involve crime and some don't. Some have murderous intent. There's a stalker, a serial killer, a daughter at the end of her tether.
Hi Jackie, Great cover on The Burning, and I love the idea of the brushfire background. It must be like having nature as one more dangerous character in the story. They say fire acts as if it's alive, sometimes.
Best, Kathryn
Looking forward now to reading some crime work from Austrialia.
My book, The Beatitudes, is a paranormal thriller set in New Orleans. It will be out in the fall and I am donating all royalties directly to the New Orleans Public Library Foundation. Libraries support the infrastructure of a great city, so I have started The Beatitudes Network to promote awareness of the importance of public libraries in NOLA.
The blogsite www.beatitudesinneworleans.blogspot.com describes the Network, has excerpts from The Beatitudes, recipes, and more. Merci mille fois. Lyn Lejeune.
Writers, please pass the word…..it’s for a good cause….don’t let the libraries of New Orleans or the US go the way of The Great Library of Alexandria. P.S. just posted an excerpt on my page here on crimespace.
My goodness, Donna, you were quick off the mark. It must be very early in the morning in Scotland - mm, counting fingers, trying to do the maths - 6am? I love your bio, it mad eme laugh and that's great.
DELIGHTED to be your friend. Thank you! Australia goodness! I bet you don't get to chat online time wise! but living there makes up for it. your book sounds terrific. there are a lot of bush fires. are they deliberately set sometimes? chat soon!
Thanks for the invite, Jackie! It's a pleasure to meet you!
Your stories sound fascinating. The brush fire background is really intriguing and so inherently dramatic! I love Melbourne, by the way--I gave a paper at the uni a couple of years ago. Great shopping in Carleton! And the country (and people) were glorious. Mmm... so was the Victoria Bitter, an ale I still can't find in the States.
Take care, and continued good luck with the writing!

Have some actor, writer and film production friends in Oz.
Came across this story on current traumas in Austral book biz, too:

That Angus and Robertson decision to charge for shelf space has the book world in a spin over here. I won't be buying books there again.
