No Return?

Borders and HarperStudio have made a bold move to eliminate returns. I'll be curious to see how this plays out in the coming months, but I'm also curious to know what people in the book business think. Is this move good or bad?

Televangelists?

I watch a lot of TV, but that isn't where I prefer to get my religious training. Unfortunately, I have some acquaintances who feel I am missing out by not taking advantage of the inspiration available from televised preachers. The weekend signing experiments were not all equally successful, but all were fun and profitable. Our choice for Waldenbooks in Manassas Mall - Friday from 4 pm to 8 pm - may not have been the most profitable time selection. Still I signed a few books and had the joy of having one fellow buy one of my novels, wander off into the mall, and return an hour later to declare aloud in the store, "This is the best book I have ever read."

Mozart I Isn't

Rumor has it that Mozart wrote down his work only once; it sprung from his head complete and perfect. Well, that isn't me. I read, re-read, and read again everything I write, and each time come closer to what I want to say. It takes a lot of time and a lot of paper, because I have to have a hard copy for most edits. I suppose it's trial and error, and we all know that's inefficient, but it's how I like to work.

Weekly Blog - Monday 15th December

In the course of the last week I finished my first read through of The Beholder. This initial edit was all about cutting out any extraneous verbiage, and it resulted in the total word count falling from 106,000 to 96,000. For the most part, the stuff that got the chop was either odd words or sentences that simply weren’t needed, as they over described either the setting or the action.

A Rolicking Good Time at Adams Mystery Playhouse!

Thursday evening, my hubby and I joined 28 other stalwart sleuths from the Rocky Mountain chapter of Mystery Writers of America for our holiday party at the Adams Mystery Playhouse, complete with dinner and a mystery play (http://www.adamsmysteryplayhouse.com/). I'm Done!

Good lord, I just spent $250 on stocking stuffers and I am done Christmas shopping. I usually buy the girls, and by girls I mean my daughter and niece, the same stocking stuffers every year. They look forward to body lotions, toothbrushes, purse size hand sanitizers, nail polish and various other personal items. Of course they get candy, the good stuff, and my daughter gets a can of asparagus. She loves the stuff but it's so darn expensive. Gee, it was almost #3 a can this year.
