Meet Me This Weekend at Malice Domestic!

I'll spend next weekend surrounded by mystery fans at Malice Domestic. Since 1989, Malice Domestic has been an annual fan convention near Washington, D.C., saluting the traditional mystery—books best typified by the works of Agatha Christie.…

Branding for Authors

Today Lisa M. Campbell, one of my favorite guest bloggers, offers some well-thought-out advice on branding. If you're a genre writer, you should pay attention - http://ascamacho.blogspot.com/

Another Cool Review

I like to share comments I receive about my work. Today I want to introduce Linda Halliburton.

I met Linda at the Virginia Festival of the Book in Charlottesville, VA where she picked up a copy of The Troubleshooter. She read it the next day on her flight home and was kind enough to send me some feedback. I've posted some of her comments on my website as this week's featured review. Read Linda Halliburton's review of The Troubleshooter - then order your own copy. -…

Why?

Communication is both my business and my hobby, but I sometimes wonder at the nonverbal communications we make. For instance, why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but don't point to their butt when they ask where the bathroom is?

The Latest

I had a great time Saturday visiting with old pals and meeting new authors at the Maryland Writers' Association Writers' Conference. There were a number of excellent sessions but one of the highpoints for me was the wonderful keynote address delivered by award-winning novelist Roxana Robinson. She was both encouraging and inspirational.…

Another Cool Review

I like to share comments I receive about my work. Today I want to introduce Ed Davis.

Ed picked up a copy of The Payback Assignment the last time I signed books in Richmond VA. He later wrote to me giving his opinion of the book, which was so positive I couldn't resist using his comments as this week's featured review on my web site.

Read Ed Davis' review of The Payback assignment. - Then order your copy!…

Unanaswered Question

Isn't it interesting how some technology constantly improves while on other fronts, early mistakes remain built into devices decades later. For instance...

Author Update

My return to Virginia picked up where I left off here. I sold out at Borders in Manassas as I had at my last two local dates. It was a fun two-hour event in the middle of a great weekend.

Another Cool Review

Nicole Burton published a very positive review of my book "Successfully Marketing Your Novel in the 21st Century" on Amazon.com. And she knows what she's talking about. Two years ago she started his own publishing company to publish her book "Swimming Up the Sun: A Memoir of Adoption." Because she frankly discussed what she gained from reading my marketing manual, I have added Nicole's comments to my web site as this week's featured review. Read it at … Continue

Artificial Intelligence

Computers are marvelous tools. As a writer I'd have a hard time living without them, but they are not infallible. For example, if you try to force a disc into place before the machine is ready to accept it you could destroy the port. As it turns out, "RAM disk" is not an installation procedure.…

The Latest

Mystery lovers greeted me warmly in Ohio, but their tastes varied in an interesting way. Friday when I signed my novels at Borders at the Dayton Mall My latest novel, Russian Roulette, sold out first and a couple of my other books didn't sell at all. Saturday at Waldenbooks at the Lima Mall I signed some of each title, with Blood and Bone stores had in common was pleasant and receptive customers, and very nice managers. It was a good time, both times.

In other news, a great review of… Continue

Meet Me tomorrow in Ohio

This week I'm away from home to make some new friends and fans. It starts tomorrow when I sign my novels at Borders at the Village at the Dayton Mall, just East of I-75. Their large seating in Seattle's Best Coffee Cafe and reading area centered on local books provide a comfortable place to meet with friends or enjoy your favorite read. And their eager staff is ready to recommend books, movies, or CDs for any interest!

I'll join them from 6pm to 10pm. Come get your Hannibal Jones…

The Cost of Wisdom

Over the years I've learned not to get too excited when things are going my way. That way it's easier not to get depressed when things go wrong. And those years have taught me to be thankful to those who help, when things go well AND when things go badly. Valuable
learning, except for the "years" thing.

Age is a very high price to pay for maturity.
