This woman cannot live on March Madness and books alone. Any good movies to recommend? Right now "The Lookout," which opens today in some markets, looks plenty good. I've heard positive buzz on TV about it, but the L.A. Times states this morning: "'The Lookout' is a writer's thriller. . . . [Director Scott] Frank has come up with an involving twists on traditional thriller material, but what makes 'The Lookout' distinctive is its strong sense of character. It's that uncommon genre film that has invested time and skill in creating convincing, carefully constructed personalities." Reviews often misdirect, but I hope this
reviewer is spot-on. What else is out there, either new or on DVD?

We just saw "Children of Men" on DVD. I'm still processing it and will have to see it again, but overall I liked it. And not just because Clive Owen is yummy. ;) The ending was extremely strong and the characters were quite interesting. If I have any criticism it would be that the plot is oversimplified, but I may be missing something... the movie wasn't quite what I expected, so next time I see it will be more for its own sake rather than my expectations. It does make me want to read the book!
Loved it. Every second of it. One of the best of 2006.
The Shooter should be good-it's based on the Stephen Hunter novel Point of Impact, a great novel. And Mark Wahlberg is a much better actor than anyone ever wants to give him credit for.

Dvd-I'm always a little behind on these because I wait until I can rent them for a week without paying extra, but Stranger Than Fiction is fantastic, The Return is good, The Grudge 2, The Illusionist. If you like foreign films, I recommend Cache, a French film. An older film of Guillermo del Toro, The Devil's Backbone, is also good.

Sorry, I'm a movie freak, I could go on for days...
We saw "Shooter" last week. I'm a huge Mark Wahlberg fan--I don't know if you've
seen this older film, "The Big Hit," but he's great in that. I like it when his
characters take on a slightly comedic edge. He's taking himself a little too
seriously in "Shooter." The premise is pretty absurd and there are a few too
many explosions for my taste. But my husband totally prefered it over "Bridge to
Terabithia," which we saw the week before. (I liked Terabithia.)

And yes, Cache, is good.
Hollywood usually does a great job of dumbing down plots.
Hmm, I'm sad to hear that about Shooter. The book is so good. Of course, that is always the way. If you haven't read the Bob Lee series by Stephen Hunter, I highly recommend them.

I don't think Terabithia would be a guy movie-I loved that book as a little girl.
I liked Terabithia, both the book and movie.

Of course, my tastes and normal guy tastes aren't anywhere near the same thing.
Oh, I don't know.
My first husband and I saw it last week, and we both loved it.
And it looks hilarious.
I do kinda want to see this. But you first. And report back!
I'm hoping to catch a matinee this weekend.

I fear, however, that BLADES cannot match the utter brilliance that was RON BURGUNDY.
