I've begun reading Carl Hiassen and wonder what other people believe are the 'funniest' or 'most humorous' crime novels out there. Steve Hamilton's stuff is great as well, but I feel like I'm missing out on a bunch.
Any ideas?

I  thought--speaking of Florida writers--that James W Hall's Buzz Cut, had a number of really funny parts as well as some of the better examples of Deep-POV I've seen out there.

The South Florida writer I think is one of the best of them all seems to be lesser known.  Laurence Shames.  Funny, gentle, with a take on mob family life that is almost whimsical, but in many ways rings truer than the Sopranos or Corleones.

Lawrence Shames looks interesting, will give it a try

I'm not sure if I'm adding this in the right place but anyway, here goes...

I came on this forum looking for some suggestions for humourous crime novels (until recently I didn't even realise this was a style all of its own - duh), so anyway, thanks to the comments made by people here I've enjoyed two such books...one by Robert Crais, the other by a member on here. I'm far too shy to name-drop though ;)

I find that when I enjoy reading one book by a particular author I want to buy up the whole series. I end up with a full book-shelf and an empty wallet. But I'm happy and that's  all that matters.

:)

You know, you would make the member's day if you mentioned his name.  Don't be shy.

ok :)

Jon Loomis

Wow!  Jon will love it.

I do, indeed.  Thanks, Celia!

Your books always bring smiles, chuckles, and one or two belly laughs

you're welcome :)

I've read quite a few really good comedy crime novels like Cross Dressed to Kill by Andrew Lucas, Country Of The Blind by Christopher Brookmyre and The Day Of The Jack Russell by Bateman. But the one that I have laughed out loud the most (and have actually had tears from crying with laughter...whilst in public!) is Tony Royden's The Dealer. May not be to everyone's taste as it is a dark comedy about a London gangster, but I think if you like the Guy Ritchie type films (Lock, Stock & Two Smokin' Barrells, Snatch etc), then you will really enjoy this book.

Wow, great tips, Paula.  I'm off to look into all of those.   I love those Ritchie films.
