Many moons ago, I lived in Alaska before it was a state. I loved Anchorage but was already registered for college, so I went back to a scholarly existence, married, had kids, taught English in high school, etc. Now a widow, I can look back on those Anchorage days with fondness. Kodiak, Alaska, though, I experienced in my adult years when my husband played a gig there for six weeks. What a time that was! My vacation was during the building of the pipeline, and, as I remember, pineapples were $8 apiece. Our apartment was above a tavern, and the jukebox
was under our bed--one floor down. It is true that there were as many taverns as churches in Kodiak.

I head for Norway in April this year on a 16-day cruise. Now at 72, I am little more careful than in my youthful days.

I am a member of Sisters in Crime--mostly just for the knowledge, but if I do not send in my dues soon, I will no longer be one. Time to get crackin'.

I am looking forward to the literary tour.
I read your post to my husband, who was stationed in Kodiak as a US Coast Guard fireman for 4 years... and he said you sure describe it as it is! He thanks you for the memories! And glad you got your taste of Alaska. I look forward to your posts about the Norway adventure.

We'll likely drive the Alaska Highway to Whitehorse and try to do Jessica's tour in August, so may see you there. Thank you.
I just picked up on this reply. My cousin in NM has been trying to send me a picture of her new puppy, but nary a thing is coming through, so I started searching and I found your reply via msn and crimespace, but so far I have nary a sign of the dog's photograph. I normally do not use msn, but my searching did snag your note, so my search was not a total loss.
