I have written horror and have eight books out.
After my husband suddenly died, I underwent the biggest change of my life
I had been through so much horror, I no longer wished to write it
Hence, I am writing a thriller.
Thanks for your comments, Carole - mint! Yorkshire's lovely - some of the most beautiful scenery on our little island. Not sure how it measures up to Manhattan. mind!
Thanks for your words of encouragement. What I have found is that during my recent little sojourn to Scotland, things have become unblocked. I've got some stories mapped out (mwah hah hah! like they will remain unchanged!) and some new ideas. We'll all get there, kidda, just got to have a little faith. Good luck with your stuff!
What kind of pups are you waiting for? We considered breeding our yellow labs, but the pure bred thing is a lot of work. We're happy to get good dogs from others with more dog-gone courage.
By the way, I also like your music. I used to play the trumpet myself and Miles was one of my favorites. Mostly his ballads. The most sensitive, heart-wrenching sounds ever. The man simply cried through his horn.

In case you hadn't checked, my novel CROSSHAIRS is also available in the UK but there appears to be a long delay in delivery if you order through your book stores. Probably faster via Amazon. Cheaper too.
So nice to get the good news and they're almost on schedule! How many puppies? Awaiting the pics! We're on the beach in Homer and finally the rain has stopped and we're getting spectacular weather. I'm working on the B'con program tho, but hubby and son are roaming the sands and chasing the sandhill cranes who fly by daily, and simply soaking it all up before son's school starts Tuesday.
Thanks for the invitation AND the compliment :o) My dad loved to cook and passed it on to me. My sister on the other hand loves to clean...not sure where that came from. My main passion (other than writing) is baking. You should see my kitchen during the holidays! On the other hand, Chuck is a mean hand at the barbeque!
Yes we did, with corn on the cob and sour creamed cucumbers instead of potatoes. If Chuck hasn't made off with it for his lunch, I plan a cold meat loaf sandwich and salad for before my massage lady comes!
(It's Lean Cuisine for lunch alas)
Dear Carole,
It may have been a sign though I didn't know it for several years. Now, I think it was. The event chaned my life. I never would have written that first novel and now I am about to turn in my 5th. So... perhaps.
Megan is a spectacular writer, who has revived the noir genre and made it her own. I've read everything she's written!
Good luck with your book!
Best,
Jonathan
I'm not sure you'd find my two P.I.s hard boiled enough but they're not your usual types. I have two series. One with Lauren Laurano and one with Faye Quick.
Thanks for the invite.
Thanks for your comment on our ITW Debut Authors page (CJ's article on beating the slush pile). It does come down to writing the damned book and you have to love the writer's journey enough to still pursue it even if you never get published. I had gotten to that point when I sold. You just never know. The main thing is to keep growing, learning the craft, and putting yourself out there. Best wishes on your journey.
I write darker suspense, so black works for me. Personally, I'm a color lover and I love the colors you picked for your page. Very unusual and cheery. Hang in there, babe. Keep writing ... and keep growing!
Well, you know anything north of the Mason-Dixon line, we consider as being Yankees. I do love "Gone with the Wind." I read it every four or five years. So much of the book was left out of the movie. If you go to Atlanta, there is Gone With the Wind memorabilia everywhere. Margaret Mitchell's house is a museum. My son lives in the town where the fabeled mansion "Tara" was supposedly located. I also have a neice named Scarlett. So you see, I'm a true Southern gal from Georgia. As they say, "American by birth, Southern by the grace of God." We retiredto southwest Florida a few years ago, and I get teased about my accent all the time. At first, I wondered, "What accent?" But Florida has a lot of "snowbirds" as we call them; people who live down here in the winter, and they apparently were amused at my accent. I never got asked about my accent until we moved down here. But.... I like being different.
Acutally my hero is a male, who works out of the police department of Hopewell, Virginia. But I use a lot of my own experiences I accumulated as Deputy Sheriff.
So Carol, how goes the writing? Last time you mentioned it, you were doing 11-hour sessions. You were an inspiration, although four or five hours a day for me is a lot. My brain stops working.
It's my granddaughter, Carole, when we were in Cornwall a few years ago. She was 6 months old and is now 5 and in kindergarten, but I don't have so many decent pics of myself to choose between!
Carole - how's the work in progress?
Greetings: Just to let you know that my New Orleans noir mystery, The
Beatitudes, has received 5 starred reviews! I am donating all royalties to the New Orleans Public Library Foundation to help rebuild the public libraries. I have posted Chapter I on my blog www.beatitudesinneworleans.blogspot.com. Please read and if you like it, help rebuild a library for NOLA. Thank you Lyn LeJeune
Yes, the revision is the hardest part...I think I revised like ten times on The Beatitudes. Let me know your progress and if I can help in any way since I've been through the process (agents - check out www.agentquery.com)
If you read the book and like it, perhaps a short review on the Amazon.com page when you have 5 minutes (if...you say! I'm working on a book lady!) Lyn
Oh thank you, Carole. You're very sweet and I bask in your warm welcome.Where in the UK do you live? I didn't understand the term "Anglophile" until the first visit there - driving out of London on the M25 (is it?) and straight into a Constable painting! I adore the UK.
Come and visit, Carole! Yes, we are slightly bigger landsize than the US with the total population of NY! LOL. We have travelled extensively here and love our country. We're originally from Sydney but also lived in Alice Springs for over 2 years. I sure hope you get here. We adore Yorkshire and the accent is to die for. I bet yours is an interesting mix now!
No word from the agent on UK prospects yet, but I have full confidence in her, and I'm the patient type. You'll be among the first to know it anything pans out there.
So sorry to hear you're both crook. Not good at all and yeah, give up those ciggies - with the money you'll save, you can come visit Australia! See? Nah, "dag" means either a funny, quirky person OR the little bit of poo stuck to a sheep's behind! LOL. NOW work it out. >giggle< Hope you both get better soon.
I live so much in 1888 when I'm writing the series, it's disconcerting for me to wander around today's East End. I keep looking for particular landmarks, most of which are gone. I consult my 1894 map, sigh and trudge on. Some of the pubs are still there, though. At least that's a blessing.
My favorite Ripper suspect? As one person put it -- U.L.N. (Unknown Local Nutter). Some guy who flew under the radar, knew how to get around the back alleys and blended in with his surroundings. No matter who he was, he had chutzpah to spare.
The pups are cute but share the joy. I raised a capuchin monkey for Helping Hands and Ziggy (pictured in my photo) is now a helper-companion for a quadriplegic.
sorry I never answered this. Hardly ever to Crimespace. I don't think you are a "superstitious nut." It may not have been a sign but it surely changed the course of my life. You just never know.
Happy Holidays!
Jonathan
Hey Carole, another 'dogy' person. What a beautiful little pack you have there. I have 3 little rescue dogs, all previously abused but now safe and loved in our home.
Good to hear from you. I find dogs in general far more faithful than people. they give you such unconditional love and ask very little in return.Hope to talk again in the future
carole, I'm honoured that you will be obtaiing a copy of 'A Studyinred'. It's out in e-book now, but the paperback version will be available by the end of the month. If you prefer the hard copy version I'd be happy to let you know as soon as my publisher informs me of the exact release date.I don't blame you for staying in, the wind is terrible! My Tilly always sits by my side when I'm writing. I call gher my 'assistant' as she never moves unitl I get up from the computer. She's my little shaodow, and is always with me. Charlie and Dylan are so loveable too, but they are boys and a bit more independent. I'll be out for a couple of hours now as ~i have to take Juliet for some tests at the hospital. Hope to be in touch again later.
Thanks Carole, I will let you know when the release date is available. Just back from the hospital and catching up on emails before carrying on with 'Cold as Ice' the sequel to my novel 'Glastonbury'. Tilly is right here beside me as usual. My friend and I are also currently working on producing a video trailer for 'A Study in Red' which should go live on my websites and You Tube later this week if my publisher approves it.
great. Hope tilly is alright and I'll look forward to hearing from you about that release date. the book sounds fantastic! now dog walking and a resumption on my writing for today! all the best.
