Bill Cameron is the author of the dark, Portland-based mysteries Lost Dog and Chasing Smoke. His stories have appeared in Spinetingler, Killer Year, and Portland Noir (2009).
Aye, JT, the beard has settled in for the long haul!
Jim, I was born at The Jewish Hospital and lived off of Vine near the zoo as a baby. Then the family moved up to Dayton where I stayed till after college (which a few forays to other states here and there). I went to school at Miami and lived in Oxford for a couple years after, then moved back to Cincinnati for a few years in the late 80s. I lived in Walnut Hills a few blocks up from Eden Park,
Then in 1990, I moved out to Portland, where I've lived ever since.
Where are you at? I remember we chatted a bit about Cincy at Bouchercon, but I can't remember now where you said you were.
Paul, I had a facendectomy. You know how they say always show your good side. I took the next step and got rid of the bad one. Though some would argue I choose wrong.
Jim, that's just amazing. Brown County isn't the tules anymore? What is the world coming to?
Right now it's looking like ThrillerFest and B'Con. Juggling day job, plane fare, and the mad desire to do things resulting in pictures like this one --> isn't easy!
oh my god! i almost wet my pants looking at your photo! is that wrong of me to say that??? first i just kind of chuckled. then the longer i looked at it the harder i laughed.
Oh, Bill. Your new photo probably captures the WHOLE you, I'll bet? Saw on Angie's page that you're an Absalom, Absalom! fan. Ditto, ditto! Blew my freakin mind.
Bill, thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment on my chapter. It really means a lot!
The dirty-word beginning was insisted upon...INSISTED UPON...by a friend of mine (who's also a writer). He dared me and cajoled me to start with that word. It's always worried me a bit, so your comment that it works is worth its weight in gold. Again, thanks!
Hey Bill! The hunt goes well. My novel is in the hands of the aquisitions editor at Medallion Press, so keep thinking good thoughts. Still a couple weeks before we can buy Lost Dog, huh? Can't come soon enough!
Thanks for friending! I do love the hat. Does that help you think better? If so, I definitely need to get me one of those! That is so cool that your character is named RJ, maybe that's a sign that I should read the book???
Have a great holiday weekend!
I've not heard much yet. It may be a while before I get actual numbers though. I'll have to dig out my contract again, but I think I recall something about a report every six months. Unless I'm delirious, which I might be. I've had an awful cold for the last few days, which has made my brain hurt.
Indeedy, I shall be in Anchorage. And since it will be September I will bring the hat. Maybe it will even be cool enough out to wear it, unlike NY in July!
Just heard part of your podcast interview with B&B. Loved the comment about the integration of theme and looking at your navel! I'm a thematic writer as well. The use of theme is sometimes belittled in mystery circles, but when I heard the late Dennis Lynds talk about theme, I thought, aha, I'm not alone!
My interest is peaked enough that I want to pick up LOST DOG. Take care and good luck with the next one.
OK, where's the hat? It's the season for it, finally, and is it on the page? No. How do we know you're the real Bill Cameron and not some sort of apocalyptic doppelganger?
Now there's the rub ;-)
I'm busy wrapping up final line edits for the end of March so that Bantam (who bought World English rights) can dazzle international buyers at the London Book Fair, April 14-16. Keep your fingers crossed, but that's when I'm hoping I land a U.S. distributor and as many other countries as will have me ;-)

My husband recently went the goatee route. We've been together for 23 years and I'm still not entirely used to it.
How are you and your wife faring with yours?
