Thanks for friending me. Congrats on "Lost Dog!"
  • Bill Cameron

    Thanks, Laura!
  • Bill Cameron

I am a skeery boy! Bwa ha ha!
  • Bill Cameron

Aye, JT, the beard has settled in for the long haul!

Jim, I was born at The Jewish Hospital and lived off of Vine near the zoo as a baby. Then the family moved up to Dayton where I stayed till after college (which a few forays to other states here and there). I went to school at Miami and lived in Oxford for a couple years after, then moved back to Cincinnati for a few years in the late 80s. I lived in Walnut Hills a few blocks up from Eden Park,

Then in 1990, I moved out to Portland, where I've lived ever since.

Where are you at? I remember we chatted a bit about Cincy at Bouchercon, but I can't remember now where you said you were.
  • Paul Guyot

Forget the beard - where's the rest of your face?
  • Bill Cameron

Paul, I had a facendectomy. You know how they say always show your good side. I took the next step and got rid of the bad one. Though some would argue I choose wrong.

Jim, that's just amazing. Brown County isn't the tules anymore? What is the world coming to?
  • Lori G. Armstrong

Drive by wave back atcha. You gearing up for Lost Dog? I've got you in my cart at amazon :)
  • Bill Cameron

I'm having a hard time focusing, Lori. On anything! Thanks for carting me! :D
  • Mary L. Wheeling

    Hello, friend!
  • Angie

Howdy, Bill. Dontcha think it's time to go public on Crimespace with the beard?!
  • Bill Cameron

Maybe.... Actually, I want a better picture. I might get one this weekend when I'm up at the cabin in the woods!
  • Angie

    Show off.
  • Bill Cameron

    haha
  • Angie

Ahahahahaha! LOVE the new pic, Bill. It's so...you.
  • Lori G. Armstrong

Bill. Nice pic. Was that taken at the cocktail party at Bouchercon?
  • Bill Cameron

You know, Lori, I think it WAS!
  • Lori G. Armstrong

What cons you going to this year?
  • Bill Cameron

Right now it's looking like ThrillerFest and B'Con. Juggling day job, plane fare, and the mad desire to do things resulting in pictures like this one --> isn't easy!
  • Anne Frasier

oh my god! i almost wet my pants looking at your photo! is that wrong of me to say that??? first i just kind of chuckled. then the longer i looked at it the harder i laughed.
  • Jon Jordan

    Bill,

That is the coolest T-Shirt ever.

    And I like the beard!
  • Bill Cameron

Anne, it's never wrong to tell a fella he made your pants wet. (Is it wrong of me to say that? 8-O )

And thanks, Jon. I'm digging on the beard, and yes, this is the coolest t-shirt ever! :D
  • Mary L. Wheeling

Oh, Bill. Your new photo probably captures the WHOLE you, I'll bet? Saw on Angie's page that you're an Absalom, Absalom! fan. Ditto, ditto! Blew my freakin mind.
  • Scott Hess

Bill, thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment on my chapter. It really means a lot!

The dirty-word beginning was insisted upon...INSISTED UPON...by a friend of mine (who's also a writer). He dared me and cajoled me to start with that word. It's always worried me a bit, so your comment that it works is worth its weight in gold. Again, thanks!
  • Anne Frasier

    i wish i could grow a beard. :(
  • Lori G. Armstrong

Bill - you are right about Khan. See, women aren't the only ones who are tempted to get a boob job...

My husband recently went the goatee route. We've been together for 23 years and I'm still not entirely used to it.

How are you and your wife faring with yours?
  • Brian Thornton

Hi Bill- how did I know you'd be here? It's official, you can start the party now, folks, Cameron's here!
  • Neil Plakcy

Hey, Bill-- great hat! I think I saw one like that in the movie Fargo.
  • Dave Bara

Hey Bill! The hunt goes well. My novel is in the hands of the aquisitions editor at Medallion Press, so keep thinking good thoughts. Still a couple weeks before we can buy Lost Dog, huh? Can't come soon enough!
  • Bill Cameron

Dave, I'd love to see you when I come up to Seattle Mystery Bookshop! April 21! :D
  • Dave Bara

Hey Bill, I'll put your signing on my calendar!

    db
  • RJ

Thanks for friending! I do love the hat. Does that help you think better? If so, I definitely need to get me one of those! That is so cool that your character is named RJ, maybe that's a sign that I should read the book???
    Have a great holiday weekend!
  • Dave Bara

Bill, what's news with Lost Dog? Got any numbers yet? How did the SMB signing go?

    db
  • Bill Cameron

I've not heard much yet. It may be a while before I get actual numbers though. I'll have to dig out my contract again, but I think I recall something about a report every six months. Unless I'm delirious, which I might be. I've had an awful cold for the last few days, which has made my brain hurt.
  • Laura Benedict

Even though I saw you often during T'fest, I still think of you in that darned hat! My 7 year-old has one with fur-lined earflaps. Stylin'!

Glad we got to meet. See you in Anchorage, right?
  • Bill Cameron

Indeedy, I shall be in Anchorage. And since it will be September I will bring the hat. Maybe it will even be cool enough out to wear it, unlike NY in July!

Good to meet you too, Laura! What a weekend, eh?
  • Carla Harker

Your picture makes me think of Adam Baldwin as Jayne Cobb in Firefly (my favorite character of a superior cast of characters.)

    Thanks for the add.
  • Naomi Hirahara

    Bill--

Just heard part of your podcast interview with B&B. Loved the comment about the integration of theme and looking at your navel! I'm a thematic writer as well. The use of theme is sometimes belittled in mystery circles, but when I heard the late Dennis Lynds talk about theme, I thought, aha, I'm not alone!

My interest is peaked enough that I want to pick up LOST DOG. Take care and good luck with the next one.
  • Simon Wood

    Bill,

I will always hold what we had in Alaska close to my heart.
  • Kelli Stanley

OK, where's the hat? It's the season for it, finally, and is it on the page? No. How do we know you're the real Bill Cameron and not some sort of apocalyptic doppelganger?
  • Bill Cameron

I like the idea of being an apocalyptic doppelganger.
  • Olav Guldbrandsen

Hi there Bill. Thanks for responding. I see your Lost Dog gets great mention on amazon. hope things are working out for you.
  • Sophie Littlefield

Bill - I finally had a chance to read Lost Dog! I'm almost done, and it's *wonderful*!!!
    Great job.
    - Sophie
  • Ken Isaacson

Well, hello there Bill. Denver bound, by any chance?
  • Maryann Mercer

My kids are in Portland. Great city...and a grand city for writers :o)
  • Simon Wood

    Congrats on the nomination, sir!!!
  • Sandra Ruttan

Congratulations Bill. May this be but the beginning of the nominations.
  • L.J. Sellers

    Hello fellow Oregonian
Congratulations on your success. I've been
hearing good things about Lost Dog.
  • Grant McKenzie

Hey Bill: Even though my debut thriller, Switch, is being launched in the UK, it is actually set in Portland, Oregon.
  • Grant McKenzie

    Now there's the rub ;-)
I'm busy wrapping up final line edits for the end of March so that Bantam (who bought World English rights) can dazzle international buyers at the London Book Fair, April 14-16. Keep your fingers crossed, but that's when I'm hoping I land a U.S. distributor and as many other countries as will have me ;-)
  • Richard Krauss

I met you the other night at Powell's book signing. I'm about 2/3 into Lost Dog and loving it!
