BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

Now available in paperback, Kindle and PDF ebook editions, published by Sonar 4 publications. Every paperback copy sold carries a $1 donation to The Mayflower Animal Sanctuary.

Autumn, 1888. The population of London is transfixed and horrified by the atrocious and horrific murder spree being conducted by Jack the Ripper. The newspapers are full of the details of the mutilations perpetrated by the killer and the apparent inability of the police to apprehend the unknown assailant. As Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Charles Warren throws the bulk of his investigative resources into the search for The Ripper, and the tabloid press scream of the crimes in banner headlines on a daily basis; on the new, ultra modern Underground Railway that has revolutionized travel around the great metropolis for the working man, another, less well publicized killer is at large.

Tucked away on the inner pages of the daily press, hardly enough to raise an eyebrow among discerning readers, one may have found a few, short articles which told of the strange and also, so far unsolved murders which are taking place on board the carriages of the new-fangled and much heralded transport system. Each murder takes place the day after one of the ripper killings, as the murderer appears to be taking advantage of the lack of police resources to tackle not one, but two, major investigations simultaneously.

Inspector Albert Norris is charged with bringing the railway killer to justice, but, as with case of Jack the Ripper, clues are few, the killer's motive unclear, and he is forced to carry out his investigations 'quietly and without causing a public panic' as the authorities seek to prevent a loss of confidence in the safety of the underground railway system. The press are being told even less, hence the minimal coverage, and Norris can count on little help from above as he attempts to solve the inexplicable series of murders.

Thanks to everyone who helps support me in my efforts to fund raise any amount, large or small for the sanctuary.

Those wishing to help the sanctuary should note that only the paperback edition carries the $1 donation.

Glastonbury

Time is running out!

Hired by millionaire businessman Malcolm Capshaw to search for a hitherto fabled historical artefact in the shadows of Glastonbury Tor, Joe Cutler and his team from Strata Survey Systems are drawn into a web of sex, lies, deceit, murder and betrayal
as the artefact is revealed to be bogus and the real purpose of their
search is slowly exposed. A menacing background presence in the form of
an old-established London crime family appears to display an abnormal
interest in the goings-on in the ancient town where Christianity laid
its roots in England, and where, aided by the enigmatic and flamboyant
university professor Lucius Doberman, Joe and his team must solve the
mystery of Glastonbury before the sinister historian Walter Graves makes
the discovery that could cost the whole team their lives!

Following on from the USA release of my latest novel, the final part of my Jack the Ripper trilogy, Requiem for the Ripper is at last available in paperback as well as in e-book format in the UK too, at Amazon.co.uk. E-book buyers should got to a different page at AmazonUK. The paperback is awaiting stock, but can be ordered now and your account will not be debited until the book is dispatched.

REQUIEM FOR THE RIPPER
Criminal psychologist David Hemswell receives a desperate call from a worried man. William Forbes, former solicitor to serial killer Jack Reid believes himself to be threatened by the living soul of the notorious Victorian enigma, Jack the Ripper. Convinced that Reid was a descendant of the Ripper and that the evil that first entered the current era through the inheritance of the Ripper’s journal by psychiatrist Robert Cavendish, Forbes turns to Hemswell as his last hope to free himself from the demons he believes are pursuing him. Forbes travels to Skerries Rock, David Hemswell’s private island home off the bleak, barren west coast of Cape Wrath, Scotland, where Hemswell soon realises that there is much about his visitor that is disquieting and frightening. Hemswell summons help in the form of paranormal investigator Kate Goddard, and together, the pair attempt to free Forbes of whatever strange phenomenon has assaulted his mind. As their investigation gathers pace, however, they soon begin to believe that the three of them are not alone on the tiny island. Has the soul of Jack the Ripper found a way to encroach upon the present day? Is William Forbes the living embodiment of The Ripper, or is he too a victim of the curse that appears to have been handed down across time by the unfortunate Cavendish family? As time begins to run out, and the danger surrounding them grows ever stronger by the second, David Hemswell must face his own demons and is faced with the most terrible decision of his life, as the story that began with A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper and continued in Legacy of the Ripper reaches its shattering and terrifying conclusion!

Christina, he believes, is calling to him. She is in trouble, and needs his help, though how she could possibly reach into his dreams is a mystery to him. On such flimsy 'evidence' Dexter enlists the help of his friend and fellow journalist Karen Bailey, who, though skeptical of his story, agrees to travel to Romania with him to assist in his quest to find and solve the mystery of Christina's appearance in his nightmares. On arriving in Romania they discover that not only Christina, but her brother, a local police officer, have been missing for months, and the pair set out to find them. Dexter retraces his steps from his previous visit to Romania hoping to find some connection with his previous investigation and the current disappearance of the woman he realizes he has fallen in love with. What they discover however, takes them far beyond the realms of the believable as the intrepid pair enter a dark world of long -forgotten practices and fear-filled corridors. Do vampires really exist? Can Dexter and Karen save the beautiful Christina and her brother from the jaws of a living nightmare far more terrible than anything Dexter's own fevered dreams could produce? PESTILENCE!
Released by Double Dragon Publishing on 8th January 2010

About the book.
From award winning author Brian L Porter comes the thriller sensation of the year. ’Pestilence’ leads where others will follow in creating a scare-fest that will terrify, entertain and astound the reader.

Pestilence….breathe if you dare!

The year is 1958, the place, an idyllic village in the heart of the English countryside. Olney St. Mary has stood in its peaceful rural location for over 900 years. Suddenly however, the peace of the community is shattered when two teenage boys are stricken with a mystery illness. The newly arrived village doctor suspects ‘flu to be the cause of their malady. Her initial diagnosis is terribly and tragically wrong!

Before long, Doctor Hilary Newton and the residents of Olney are plunged into a nightmare of Biblical proportions as the death toll rises and no cure can be found for the disease that ravages the local population, despite the doctors employing the latest antibiotics available to them. Somehow, this plague is different! Help arrives in the form of a medical team from the outside, but the bodies continue to pile up. Someone, somewhere, perhaps within the community itself, knows the reason behind the pestilence that has struck at the heart of the village, but will the medics learn the truth before it’s too late, or will they too join the growing list of names that appear on the roll of death roll in Olney St. Mary?

When a mysterious explosion wreaks havoc in the children’s playground, followed by a second lethal blast in Olney’s makeshift field hospital the sinister and unbelievable truth behind the pestilence begins to slowly reveal itself.

Award-winning author Brian L Porter takes terror to a new dimension as an age old horror returns to nineteen fifties rural England. This time however, the pestilence itself appears to have evolved!

LEGACY OF THE RIPPER, THE SEQUEL TO A STUDY IN RED

Following on from the success of ‘A Study in Red – The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper’, WS 1888 member Brian L Porter’s sequel to the original, ‘Legacy of the Ripper’ has now been released by Double Dragon Publishing, (Ontario) and is currently available in paperback and e-book editions.
Production of the movie version of ‘A Study in Red’ is making progress and Brian is delighted to announce that he has also signed with Thunderball Films for movie production of ‘Legacy of the Ripper’

About the book:

Jack Thomas Reid, nephew of Robert Cavendish who first appeared in A Study in Red – The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper languishes in the secure Ravenswood Psychiatric Hospital, sentenced to confinement ‘at Her Majesty’s Pleasure’ for a series of apparent ‘Jack the Ripper’ copycat killings in the picturesque English coastal resort of Brighton. Jack’s defence at his trial, that he is a descendant of Jack the Ripper and that the crimes were conducted by an unknown ‘mystery man’ and that Jack was drugged and made to appear as the killer was regarded as so preposterous and unbelievable that his sentence was never in doubt. When one of the policemen who conducted the original investigation into the murders begins to doubt the truth of the case against Reid, Sergeant Carl Wright and Ripperologist Alice Nickels begin an investigation into his story. What they find is told through the voice of Doctor Ruth Truman, Jack’s psychiatrist at Ravenswood, and through a series of events that take place as far afield as the beautiful island of Malta and in Warsaw, Poland. Slowly but surely and with the help of Wright’s boss Inspector Mike Holland, the link between the events that shocked and terrorized Whitechapel over a century ago, and their link with the case of Jack Thomas Reid and the ‘Legacy of Jack the Ripper’ is revealed.

The book is currently available from Amazon.com at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1554046904 ISBN 1554046904 and from Amazon UK as well as from other retailers.

I'm the award-winning author of the novel 'A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper' winner of The Preditors & Editors Best Thriller Novel of 2008 Award. The book, a dark psychological thriller was also voted the winner of The Authors Lounge Best Cover Illustration Award for May 2008, and is soon to be made into a motion picture by Thunderball Films LLC of Los Angeles. The following trailer has been released by Thunderball Films as a taster of what's to come.
The Book Blurb: A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper by Brian L Porter tells the story of Robert Cavendish, a modern day psychiatrist who is bequeathed a strange set of papers which purport to be the journal of the long-dead infamous Whitechapel Murderer whose crimes gripped the hearts and minds and instilled terror on the streets of Victorian London. As he begins to read the journal, Robert becomes convinced of it’s authenticity and finds that the words of the Ripper have a strange and compelling effect on him. Unable to cast the pages aside he finds himself being drawn into the dark and sinister world of the killer until he is unable to distinguish what is fact and what is fantasy. In short, Robert Cavendish begins to feel as though he is being taken over in some way by the soul of the long-dead Ripper. What happens as he progresses through the journal will disturb and shock the reader as the close dividing line between sanity and madness is explored to the full. One of the many reviews received so far. 'A Study In Red' Is A BLOCKBUSTER Of A Novel, April 26, 2008 By Barbara Watkins "Barbara Watkins" (Missouri) - See all my reviews Not since reading `Mister B Gone' by Clive Barker had I felt such an enthusiasm of excitement with each turn of the page. `A Study in Red' (The Secret Journal of Jack The Ripper) by Brian Porter ranks high at the top of the charts as a phenomenal work of horror and intrigue. Although set as fiction his depiction of the Ripper murders reads all too real. The author transports his reader back in time to 18th century London. Through his articulate choice of words, you will feel the cobblestone beneath your feet, see the deprivation, and smell the stench that engulfed the streets of Whitechapel at that time. Not unlike the main character of Brian's novel, the journal will possess your complete attention, and evoke thoughts of terror as you anticipate the final climax. In his novel, the author acknowledges many sources from which he meticulously researched much of his material, further adding great realism to his work. In Brian Porter's footnotes, he declares `A study in Red' is a tale, nothing more than fiction, rather than an attempt to throw new light on an old subject. As an avid fan of this new and upcoming author, I can attest he does just that! Brian Porter not only throws a new light on an old subject, he illuminates it! A Study in Red is available in paperback, e-book, and audio versions and can be viewed at Amazon.com by clicking on the cover image above, or by visiting the book's website at www.freewebs.com/astudyinred or by visiting the website of the publisher, Double Dragon Publishing Other paperbacks Also available in paperback right now are my novelette, 'Dracula Doesn't Live Here Anymore' and my award-nominated short story trilogy 'Murder, Mayhem and Mexico', both from Eternal Press and available from Amazon.com Clicking on either of the cover designs below will take you to the book's pages at Amazon. Jack has to 'flesh it out'? You have to 'flesh it out'? Oh please. Like there's a difference there. That's what makes these books so perfectly chilling. It's hard to separate imagination from reality, or determine if any of it really is imagination. Another in the series? That is SO fantastic. Give me a chance to get through the second one though--you're too quick! This is all so cool and I'm so happy for you that you get nothing but great reviews on your work. But, like I've said, those are the only kind you deserve. You have a real gift for pulling the reader in, and that's right where we should be.

Hi, This has been a horrendous week. I shouldn't say horrendous because nothing horrible happened, but it has just been SO crazy. I've been a bit under the weather, but nothing serious and getting better every day. First of all, yes the book has really been ordered this time and I am just waiting for it. Then, I want Kiss of Life, but then, you knew that already! I do want the cover, but I promise, I'll read it too! Now there is a 'journey into the mind of a serial killer'? Oh Yeah! Another MUST HAVE!

Also, before I forget, I should be getting the anthology entry to you by early next week. Between all the commotion here and my feeling a bit puny, I'm kind of behind on everything, but I'm picking up the pace little by little. I want to get it to you way before the deadline. I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but I'll give it a shot just the same. If nothing else, it's been a lot of fun to write.

Now, it's time for some hot tea and put the feet up for awhile. Later, Joyce

It would be worth buying the book just for the cover, but I am certain the story behind it might be worth a look too (lol). Seriously though, the first one was great and when it ended, it was like 'what--no--you can't stop there.' I'm very glad there's more coming and I'm anxious to see where this one will take me.

Oh, and I've been awaiting receipt of your trilogy and angry because I haven't received it; only to discover I forgot to order it. I got distracted somewhere along the line (that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it). Perhaps if I actually order it, I might actually receive it, so I'm taking care of that today. I've got my grandson reminding me in the case of another lapse, so it will get done this time!

Hi, Brian, I got Dracula Doesn't Live Here Anymore today and of course, I read it. Had to write a review on Amazon too. That is a terrific story. Short piece, but so much story. Loved it. I'm very anxious to get into it. I'm going to watch for more of yours to go paperback too.

FYI: My 8 year old grandson and I had a discussion about your book tonight (A Study in Red) and Jack the Ripper in general (he's extremely sharp; I homeschool him and he's into some high school stuff at this point), but anyway, he's thinks your take on it is terrific. He writes crime stories too. I'm so proud.

It's not ready yet, but just one quick question. For the anthology entry, do you have to have a .doc file? My word program is acting nuts and I'm going to have to buy another. I might be able to do so before the deadline, but in case not, could I send an .rtf document?

Have a great evening. Joyce
