Barnes and Mint agree to find Old Lady Wells' ring, but only because she's offering them a crazy amount of money to do the job. The ring was stolen by her wayward son and it soon becomes clear to the Detective and his Assistant that robbery, blackmail, murder and drug dealing are not normally a sound foundation for a family business. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Martinez, of the Springfield PD is investigating the murder of another Private Detective and the disappearance of two teenage witnesses. Why do the same names keep coming up in both investigations? Why didn't Harry Wells want to sell his mother's ring? Why are Barnes and Mint being followed? Who's driving the old Astrovan with blacked-out windows? The very first Anubis Barnes Investigation: Detective Fiction that leaves no loose ends.
