Born in Ireland, Eoin Hennigan is a long-time resident of Sydney, Australia. A journalist for 15 years, he has been a writer and copy-editor for a number of leading newspapers and magazines in Australia, Ireland, Scotland and the Middle East.
In 2008 Eoin featured in the Mystery Readers Journal: Irish Mysteries edition, alongside noted Irish crime writers such as Benjamin Black (aka John Banville), Colin Bateman, Declan Burke, Ken Bruen, Ruth Dudley Edwards and Tana French. His contribution, I Owe My Life to an Irish Criminal, is an account of flat-sharing with an ex-con who hadn’t given up his life of crime. It prompted a major upheaval in Eoin’s life that led to him becoming a journalist, and subsequently a crime writer.
He writes a regular column interviewing Australian authors.
Hi Eoin, Thank you for friending me. It would seem that Hollywood history is a hot topic these days. I'm working on a story set in the silent film era, with my great uncle who worked at Metro. I can't wait to read your book, "The Truth, it Lies."
Thanks for the friends request. I followed the links on your website to the preview of your new book The Truth, it Lies. It sounds like an intriguing premise; the blacklist period was a fascinating part of Hollywood history. Since I am also writing about a slice of Hollywood history myself, the early 70's, I will be sure to read your novel upon its release.
I actually met one of the Hollywood Ten, Ring Lardner Jr., just before his death. I was a young, starving writer selling cars to the Hollywood set at the time, and he was a neighbor of the owner of the dealership. I drove out to Ring Jr's Encino home to deliver his new car, and asked him if he was related to Ring Lardner, Sr. -- a friend of Hemingway & Fitzgerald. He beamed at the recognition. Ring Jr. told that he remembered the wild parties and drunken card games that his father, Fitzgerald, and Hemingway would have in Ring Sr.s household. We debated literary criticism of The Great Gatsby, shook hands and parted ways. It was only later that I found out that Ring Jr. was one of the Hollywood Ten and that he wrote the scripts for Laura and MASH. That's my little slice of blacklist Hollywood history...
Just reading about your books - that is pretty exciting stuff.... Im going to have to keep an eye out for your work.
I wanted to invite you to my Blogoversary Party tomorrow - 2 years of blogging and some giveaways but it would just be cool if you could stop by and say "hey".
Id like to chat with you more when I have time about your work.
thanks for the friend invite. this is quite curious, i have had a ton of sydney-related things happen recently. i wonder if something is telling me to emigrate (again). ;-)
Glad to join your group of friends, thanks! Your latest book sounds interesting. Haven't yet gone to authonomy, but will check it out. I, too, like hardboiled (although I write a variety of subgenres.)
Currently I'm chairing a Private Eye Writers Shamus Award committee for the Best Short Story published in 2008. The postmark deadline is June 19, if you have any short stories (or novels) featuring a private eye--meaning a paid individual who investigates, not including law enforcement officials--then I invite you to submit. You don't have to be a PWA member. PWA has a website outlining all the rules. Believe me, it's a great group, full of hardboiled writers.
Eoin... Thanks for the invite to be your friend. I am working on a non-fiction book at present about my son, born with Bladder Exstrophy. It's been a very long, laborious process, but my goal is to finish in less than 90 days. I then want to begin to write about white collar crime, sex, lies, power, money and deception. But, I do not know how to go about writing this story. It is absolutely true, but stranger than fiction. Could you give me any hints on how to weave the story? Sarah
