"Sorry for the bump and for just getting to this. That said, thanks for stopping by and your input, Eric. I've decided that to go with the suggestion(s) made by you and Jed to shorten up (it'll look much like it does under my first reply to…"

Eric Christopherson replied to Jemir Johnson's discussion Cover copy help part 2 ... sorta ... kinda ...
"Hi, Jemir, I'm not a short story enthusiast, but my instinct would be in line with Jed's suggestion not to describe the stories individually, but collectively, atmospherically and so on. It strikes me as too much info to take in quickly,…"

Jed Power replied to Jemir Johnson's discussion Cover copy help part 2 ... sorta ... kinda ...
"Hi Jemir, I like it much better. Just my opinion. I wouldn't describe the stories individually. As long as somewhere on the covers it points out the work is a story collection, I think you'll be all right. Good luck, Jed"

Jemir Johnson replied to QualityBookReviews's discussion What are you currently reading?
"Target Lancer by Max Allan Collins. Easy Rawlins, Nathan Heller, Tamara Hayle and Michael Tree (another Collins co creation) are personal faves (in the sleuth department) so I gravitate towards almost anything they're in. Thankfully the latest…"

"Great copy, Jemir. My suggestion is the length is too long. I'd cut heavily & have the product description jump out in half the words. Good luck, Jed"

Hello, Everyone. First hope any and all reading are having a great week or on the path to it. Second: this post is patterend a bit after one that Jude Hardin did and Eric Christopherson knocked out of the park by providing help with the back cover copy provided. My own four story collection - called Blind Corners - featuring a black, female, private eye named Jay Nova (her ethnicity isn't really  harped on as it will either be apparent through the final cover if not the stories themselves so…See More

Jemir Johnson replied to Victoria Dougherty's discussion Hard-Boiled Thrillers, Noir, and the Belly Laugh
"I dig humor in anything as long as the humor "fits" the mood the story sets. The hunor in a movie like Pulp Fiction is organic and fits the serious tone. At the same time I don't have a problem with campy/tongue in cheek humor if the…"

Jemir Johnson replied to Brian Hoffman's discussion Characterize what you write.
"Well I've taken to calling my take on crime fiction "Dark Hat Noir" entries (Came up with a logo that I thought would help associate me with a brand and stand out) I would probably call what I do street crime thrillers."

Jemir Johnson replied to Jude Hardin's discussion Paper Books vs E-books
"While I embrace e-books as a whole I haven't embraced the practice on a personal level. More out of habit than protest. I also know I'm not built to "one click" my libaries (literary, music, etc) as my eyes (or ears) tend to be…"

Jemir Johnson replied to Jackson Burnett's discussion Salma Hayek: Femme Fatale?
"She definitely has the "chops" to pull off a Femme Fatale convincingly (her eyes, her voice) so I can easily believe some would have dug her performance in "Lonely Hearts" (which I haven't seen but word of mouth kept me away…"

Jemir Johnson replied to I. J. Parker's discussion Why Do We Toss Books Unread?
"Patience. It seems when it comes to patience the amount I give the moving image (television, movies) and the written word have switched positions. Where as the 16 years ago me had the patience to wait for the whale to show up in "Moby…"

Jemir Johnson replied to Miriam Pia's discussion Uncommon crime fiction - is this really a novel approach?
"Since todays audience trend towards plot observation before, during or after a story ("why didn't he or she just ...", "How did they not suspect ...", "Wouldn't they need a warrant to ..." , etc) I don't…"

About Me:
I'm a hardened thief. A taker. Well ... not really. In fact my aversion to avoiding physical pain at all costs, suspect fighting skills honed from years of reading just the back cover blurbs of martial arts "How to" books, and nagging inability to keep even the smallest of secrets have made unwelcome in most outlaw circles. I mean, there is the "please, not in the face, He did it! He did it!" snitch and heist club I'm a member of but we have yet to pull off a successful one ... or not claim we're late for something else and really have to go on the day of the heist :-). But I DO steal as many free moments as I can to read the fantasy, drama, humor and crime fiction of other talents and create some of my own. Among that work is 5 Shots. 5 Shots is a graphic novel collection with five stories (hence the title) focused on the case files of an African-American, female, private eye named Jay Nova who – off the books – helps desperate people resolve "situations" they can’t, or won’t, go to the law with. And did I mention she has a secret ability to read minds that she can't control or predict? The follow up to 5 Shots - titled Blind Corners - is being put together as of this post. Thanks for having me here and I hope I can contribute as much as I learn. Wishing any and everyone great reading, writing and success.
I Am A:
Reader, Writer
Books And Authors I Like:
Authors I dig (but not graves for :-) ) -Walter Mosley, Chester Himes,George Pelicanos,Octavia Butler to name just a few.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Law and Order (Both the original when it aired and SVU), The Wire, Training Day, Across 110th Street, Shaft (The first two movies. Pretty much pretend Shaft in Africa and the tv show never happened. Thought the movie with Samuel L. Jackson was decent) and many, many more (tv shows and movies) that I haven't named for the sake of not turning this into a 200 page post :-).
