I've been asked to write an article on the 10 best crime novels set in the 1960s. I've got my own ideas - but I'd like to hear what other people think. Any suggestions?Continue

- I'm a journalist and writer who's had a lifelong love of crime fiction. I started life as a reporter on a local newspaper nearly 50 years ago and have done most things in journalism since. I've covered stories in locations as varied as 700 feet down a coal mine and a courtier's chambers in Buckingham Palace. I'm also a published crime writer.

- I've always liked the noir genre including the classics by writers such as Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. I loved a 1970s series of British novels by Victor Canning featuring his PI Rex Carver. Peter Lovesey is a writer hero of mine - I think The False Inspector Dew one of the cleverest crime mysteries ever written. I've recently discovered Alan Bradley's brilliant Flavia de Luce series. And I could on... But I think that's enough for now!
- Movies And TV Shows I Like:
- I prefer to read rather than view. But I have to pick out the Granada Television produced series of Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett as one of the best and most ambitious TV crime series ever. (I also have a soft spot for the Holmes films with Basil Rathbone.) I've enjoyed TV series from as far back as A Man Called Ironside to the recent BBC's New Tricks.
