My book signing at Borders in Manassas was short but sweet, both because I sold out of books an hour before the scheduled end time. Lots of Virginia readers will get Hannibal Jones novels for Christmas this year.

The follow-up event at Baltimore Washington International Airport was also fun, and informative. One traveler told me he was very glad to meet me because he encountered my novels at work. He said that he taught remedial reading at a Tennessee prison and that my books were…

The Last Word

I got the word that the trip I had planned for months was cancelled just 3 days before the departure date. I was momentarily furious and the travel folks allowed me to vent a bit. What could have evolved into a major argument dissolved quickly thanks to their proper attitude. They reminded me that there is a way to always get the last word in: Apologize.

Author Update

This writer’s life has certainly had its ups and downs lately. One high point was getting to visit with a unique book club. Most clubs I’ve spoken to had only female members, but this group was made up of a dozen couples. What’s more, the meeting I attended was their 20th anniversary! I was…

Meet Me Sunday in MD

My next book signing happens Sunday at the Borders Express in the Mall at Columbia. I have visited this little store before and always had a fun time. The mall itself has changed a lot over the last few months - old stores out and new stores in. Stop by Sunday between 1pm and 5pm and see… Continue

Another Cool Review

Cheryl Waggoner was one of the first people to comment on the Kindle version of my first novel, The Troubleshooter. I was naturally happy to hear her response, but it was even more exciting to learn that the first book drove her to download the second, Blood and Bone to read on her new… Continue

Today's Advice

Honesty IS the best policy, but you never want to hurt a person's feelings. As a writer I've learned how to be honest AND kind. Wardrobe disaster? I say, "You do have a style all your own." Ugly child? "Wow, that's some baby!" My rule: If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be… Continue

Events at the Borders in that airport are always good. It does make an author smile to sign five books in the first 15 minutes of a morning book…

Words to the Wise

When speaking to others, I believe in enlightened self-interest. In other words, always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
