Opportunity Knocks

There were days when I thought I’d never get another novel written. But it is.

There were times I didn’t think I could get a book published. But they are.

I once wondered if it was even possible to get my books onto bookstore shelves with all those other writers. When I walk into a store and see them there I’m still a little amazed.

I never thought a bookstore would be willing to host a book release event for one of my little mystery novels. And yet, on June… Continue

Meet Me in Washington DC tomorrow

Since my last posting here I had my last book signing at the Borders Express in St Charles Town Center before the big book release party for Russian Roulette. Store Manager Becky has done a great job preparing for that event and I talked to people that night who were looking forward to it.

I also signed a few books at the Borders Express in Dulles Town Center Mall. That was supposed to be my final book signing before the new book comes out June 13th. But the best laid… Continue

Who You gonna Call? Ghost Writers??

For the next couple of weeks, we'll try to respond to some of the most frequently asked questions, on the theory that if one new author asked, a dozen more want to know the same thing.

Here's a question that comes up:

"What do you think about ghost writing? I'm in need of a writer to tell my story because I really do not have the time to write it and really don't know how to get started."

This is really two different questions, depending on whether you are… Continue

More Blogging for Fellow Authors

My main blog is mostly for other writers. For the next couple of weeks, I'll try to respond to some of the most frequently asked questions, on the theory that if one new author asked, a dozen more want to know the same thing. Today I address a question I hear often:

"I am attending a conference and I am meeting with three agents at the conference. Do you have any advice?"

Of course, I do.

I also have an essay on… Continue

Elsewhere on the Internet

On the internet, you CAN be in 2 places at once. Today I’m featured on “Mysterious People,” the blog on which mystery author Jean Henry Mead interviews mystery/suspense/thriller/crime authors. Please stop by and see what I had to say.

I also have an article on Acme Author Link, a blog I share with several talented crime writers.… Continue

Lightning Source Tips & Tricks

My lovely wife Denise (the publisher) is blogging about LSI because it has been a very successful place for us to publish and because she is asked numerous questions about it by self-publishing authors wanting to know how it works.

I’ll be there from 5 pm to 9 pm signing my novels and chatting about the upcoming book. Don't forget your Support Staff

When you sit down to start your workday, look around your office. I’ll bet there’s that one person who keeps the ship afloat by handling the thousands of essentials that let you concentrate on your actual job. Notice that as soon as that person sits down to a cup of hot coffee, her boss will ask her to do something that will last until the coffee is cold.

We have a very effective lady in our office who makes things happen. Fire and forget, you know it’s handled. Of course, the… Continue

Update and PARTY INVITATION!

Saturday’s book signing at Borders Express - Wheaton Mall was fun, not just because I got to meet a whole new crowd of potential fans, but because I saw some old one’s too. New friends included Monica, who e-mailed me that same night to say, “I am here reading the book that you signed and have not been able to put it down.” One old friend gave me a wonderful surprise by stopping by with the baby, but he slept thru the entire experience (Hi Sally!)

Sunday, Reagan National Airport was… Continue

Author Update and the Big Book Giveaway!

Friday afternoon at Borders in Washington Dulles International Airport was another fun time of ups and downs as the store filled up after a landing, then thinned out for a while. I got to send my novels off to Zimbabwe and Ghana, among other places.

Saturday I hopped up to Baltimore to read from my story in Maryland Writers Association anthology. It was an intimate little group at the Roland Park Branch Library, but since I’m a fan of many of the other authors in the book I get a… Continue

Easter Greetings

Happy Easter, albeit a tiny bit late. We all find meaning in our own way. For me as a Christian, the resurrection reminds me that we all have the opportunity to start over no matter what my circumstances.

As a writer, I see a broader meaning that everyone can benefit from. Easter says that yes, you can put truth in a grave, but it won't stay there.

Holy Thoughts

This week we see the crossover of two powerful religions as Passover starts the day before Good Friday, and I can’t help but think about the commonalities rather than the differences.

For one thing, we can all enjoy watching Charlton Heston in The 10 Commandments this weekend. Heston is known more recently for his support of the National Rifle Association and one might think that if the ancient Israelites had owned guns, all the plagues and sea parting might not have been necessary… Continue
