I haven't been very public about this, but earlier this year I was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. This meant my wife and I needed to move our lives one state over and receive a kidney from a donor. Luckily, that happened before things got really bad.
Unluckily, kidney transplants are extremely expensive. The care required after the operation is also extensive. It isn't like changing a tire. It's like changing how your entire body operates. In total, it would cost $1 million for a transplant out-of-pocket, according to information from my hospital. Fortunately, I have insurance. Unfortunately, you know how insurance typically works.
To defray the costs of my continuing care, I've put together the
"4 Killer Crime Stories in 4 Minutes" eBook. It features four of my flash fiction pieces in a handsome eBook design. It's available through Scribd for $1.50.
I'm not trying to guilt trip anyone or host a pity party. I'm more than fortunate to still be walking around. That's enough for me. This is gravy to help get through the tough times.
