Obligatory mention: a book of mine released on Tuesday. Brilliant Disguise is a fun book. I bill it as "Undercover FBI agent meets small town mom. Mom wins."
Here's the blurb:
BLURB START
Nick Baxter, an undercover FBI agent, thinks his BRILLIANT DISGUISE will fool the hicks in New Providence, Iowa. They won't suspect he's there investigating widow Shannon Delgardie, under suspicion of treason. What Nick doesn't know is that everybody in town is conspiring to protect her and investigate him in return.
Shannon needs help. The men her late husband blackmailed are closing in and the FBI might be involved. When Nick approaches her, can she trust him? With the aid of computer hackers and hair stylists, she uncovers the truth, finding a love she never expected in a tiny Iowa town.
BLURB END
Now here's the point of this post ... this is my seventh book to release in two years. By the end of this year, four of those books will be in print. Just a year ago, I remember running around like a headless chicken, trying to do promotion: post excerpts here, sign up for that chat there, send fliers here, send bookmarks there.
In contrast this year, I'm taking a more low-key approach. For the next month, I'll talk up this book wherever I am. It'll be in my sig line, it'll be on my mind. At the end of this month, I have another 'release' -- an e-book is going to print, so I'll be doing double promo. Not a problem, I'm used to that.
I've decided the best approach is to relax and remind myself: I'm in this for the long haul. Unlike traditional publishers, my books are ALWAYS available. Five years from now I can re-promo these books and they'll be there, ready to be bought.
It gives me the luxury of time ... so rather than beat myself up pimping one single book, I can focus on building my back list.
Which is where I'm off to right now ... my next WIP awaits me.
