Adelaide Writer's Week occurs every 2 years as part of the Adelaide Festival of Arts
In 2006 the contingent of 25 international and 42 Australian writers provided a wonderful balance between the established figures and the newly emerging writers. Writers' Week has a solid committed core of supporters with audience numbers steadily increasing to an estimated 107,225 attendances.
The events are mainly free and are held in open tents
in a meeting place between a memorial garden for women and a colonial parade ground, on Kaurna country. Very easy to get to.
The dates for Adelaide Writers Week in 2008 are 2-7 March 2008
There is usually a strong mystery/crime strand - last time we had Val McDermid, Minette Walters, Andrew Taylor, Marele Day, Nicholas Jose, Michael Robotham to name a few.
See full list at http://www.adelaidefestival.com.au/archives/2006/program/writersweek.aspx
The 2008 program is not yet available but you will see the dates include opening on a Sunday and closing on the following Friday.
There are Meet the author sessions, panels, book signings, book launches, and a couple of evening lectures (you pay for them)
As it is part of the Adelaide Festival of Arts, then it makes Adelaide a very exciting place to be with lots going on.
If you thought you might come, let me know. Perhaps I can help with a bed, or direct you to some relatively cheap accommodation.I intend to organise a couple of events/meetings/outings for oz_mystery_readers who turn up, so you would be very welcome to join in. I intend having some time off that week.
If you've always wanted to come to Adelaide, or are thinking of a holiday in Oz, why not make it that week? It is a lovely part of the world even if I do say so myself,
