Bow Street Runner John Chase, and Penelope Wolfe, wife of the chief suspect, form an unlikely alliance to find the killer of Constance Tyrone, the founder of a society dedicated to helping poor women. The book is set in 1811 London.

I very much enjoy books set in this period and about the early Bow Street Runners. While this book conveys the period very well, I personally found it very slow moving and rather plodding. While I do have her 2^nd book, I shall probably stay with Bruce Anderson, T.F. Banks and Anne Perry for books of this subject
