Characters introducted in “Dust to Dust,” Mark is working at an archaeological excavation and Hilary at an art museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Their relationship is rocky enough without someone resorting to murder to keep his skeletons in the closet.

I must admit I didn’t care as much for this as Carl’s previous two books mainly, I think, because it was less of a gothic and more a romantic suspense. In other words, it seems to focus more on their relationship than the mystery. Perhaps, also, the setting of Texas with suspects who felt like caricatures, just didn’t draw me in the way her previous two books had done.
