Theoretically it was not supposed to be released until the 28th of July, but I've noticed that for Amazon such dates are flexible. U.S. release is not until October 28., yet I'm told it will be available some time in August. It's all very strange, but not at all bad if that gives me a little extra time to sell a few books before the libraries have them.
I'm not at all known in the UK, so initial sales are bound to be slow. I also hear that reviews aren't likely to be forth-coming, so allow me a few words about the novel:
THE MASUDA AFFAIR is based on a short story ("The O-Bon Cat") that I wrote shortly after winning the Shamus. I recall I was all buoyed up by notions of being a writer after all. The story was written to mark Halloween, and is mostly tongue-in-cheek for ghostly phenomena. The novel, however, deals in greater detail with another aspect, that of a grieving father who finds a lost child and becomes obsessed with replacing his dead son with this abused boy who has no voice. A strange tale of murder hangs by the encounter, and before it is done several other people lose their lives.
So, if you live in the UK, you may want to take a look. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a little longer. :)
