I discovered Spike Jones about the same time I found The Goons- Yikes!

Patricia, Spike Jones was very underrated as a musician, in my opinon, as he was also a great showman. I would compare him to Liberace and Lawrence Welk, insofar as his impact on the music business, but he was also funny. Used to love to see him on the old Variety shows like Ed Sullivan, etc. If you ever get the opportunity to see some of the old videos grab it.

"Yes! We Have No Bananas" is the title of a novelty song by Frank Silver and Irving Cohn that was a major hit in 1923, and one of the top songs of the 20th century. The song was recorded by Billy Jones, Arthur Hall, Irving Kaufman and others that year, and covered later by Benny Goodman and his Orchestra, Spike Jones & His City Slickers and many more. It also inspired a follow-up, "I've Got the Yes! We Have No Bananas Blues," recorded by Jones and others in 1923.

Well what with all the silence around here the tune has changed. Now I am humming "yes we have no bananas". Where did that come from? Maybe the heat is getting to me.

Ah, the Last unicorn!~ Got that book, too!

Ya know, Youtube should come with some sort of disclaimer.

Two great movies. Not on YouTube though. At least not that I have found in all my not-looking. I hate headachy days. It is rainy and cool and dreary here today. Scots word for it (as in Scottish) - dreicht. Don's some words just sound so right for what they mean? Like 'pluke'?
