Cameraman Tim Wege and I shot this video out on the Cape Flats, a sprawling ghetto outside Cape Town, where South Africa’s apartheid government dumped millions of people of mixed race. The Flats has the highest rape, murder and child abuse stats in the world. The tattooed knifeman in the video is an ex-member of one of the notorious Number Gangs that rule the prisons in the Cape.
