Something about the books...

As a few people have asked about the books I realized my bio might be missing some of the key information you'd expect to find on Crimespace, so I've decided to say a little here about my writing.

My new book, Who is Conrad Hirst?, comes out in November 2007 through Simon & Schuster in the US. This is the last of my hitman triptych (a term coined by my film agent because the books all explore aspects of the hitman's existence but aren't a series and only share a few subliminal characters). The first was People Die (available in paperback in the US by Kensington) and the second was For the Dogs (published by S&S in the US in hardcover, and we're hoping for a paperback release next year). The new book and For the Dogs have both been optioned to film. There is another book, my second, Among the Dead, which was only published in the UK, and which has had a song written about it, the video of which you can watch on my website.

You can also find my short stories lurking about here and there. My first Ellery Queen story, The Window, is available to read on my website. I've since published several more with the same magazine, a story called The Death of Jeffers in Dublin Noir (this might also be getting the film treatment), one called Retrospective in Greatest Hits (ed. Robert Randisi, US) and also in Best British Mysteries IV (ed. Maxim Jakubowski, UK), which has been shortlisted for the CWA Short Story Award, and finally, The Preacher, which comes out in Expletive Deleted (ed. Jen Jordan, published by Bleak House in the US this November).

That's it - if there was an exam on the subject of Kevin Wignall you could probably pass it with all that information. I won't update here every time there's some minor development, but if any of the films goes into production or anything else major happens, I'll try to post about it.

I can't say "never" and I do like the hitman as central character, but I think I want to explore some other things now. But don't worry, Betty, they'll still be dark and disturbing!

A song about one of your books - wonderful- will have to look that up. What do you mean final in the series - are you not going to write any more hitman/hitmen books?
