Red Means Run - Brad Smith

I've added Brad Smith's previous books to my Canadian authors displays at the library in the past, but I admit I hadn't read this author until I picked up his new release  - Red Means Run.And I…

DISTRACTED novella free

In day two of my free promotion experiment at Amazon for my thriller novella, DISTRACTED. I've published several books traditionally (Harlequin, Simon & Schuster) as well as a handful independently. The publishing landscape is changing, and I for one am excited about the possibilities. Looking for something to read? Check out DISTRACTED.

Censorship by Margot Justes

With age comes wisdom and tolerance, at least that is what they say, whoever they are.

Well, I find my intolerance for censorship is growing, not diminishing with age.

We accept the most brutal, disgusting and gory displays of our bodies in books, games and television, the more horrific the better, yet a look at a nude picture or painting puts us in a tizzy. Why?

We all come in different shapes and sizes, and we are all beautiful in our own…

A Note on Editing

Have you ever seen the drawing of a pyramid of triangles in which you're supposed to count the number of triangles there are in the picture? Some people count the obvious smaller individual triangles, but miss the fact that the way the picture is drawn, there are bigger triangles throughout.

I think editing is similar. There are so many areas of editing, you may not be aware of where they show up and what you are doing when you do it. Let's look at a few instances.

You've…

Needs a review or two--maybe even a fan or two. Hey! It could happen!?

I'm not saying this is the greatest novel since Dick and Jane Spent the Night Together.  But it's pretty damn close.

For all you hard boiled police-procedural fans out there, you might discover a jewel in the rough with this one.  And while you're at it, maybe a review?…

"A Taste of Old Revenge" by CrimeSpace's Own B.R. Stateham

B.R. Stateham cranks out the kind of volume usually reserved for meat grinders and garage bands. I'm talkin' numbers and intensity. The guy produces more work at a consistently high quality than any crime author I know. So much so that I named his style "red meat crime fiction." Fans know his…

FIRE SEASON off to the copy editor.

The manuscript is in great shape (my editor thinks so, anyway) but the copy editor will find some damn thing on practically every page--this is the way of copy editors.  There will be a period of three weeks or so in which we wait, and then a great rush to respond to her notes, then off to the typesetter, then to the printer.  My understanding is that it's already available for pre-order on Kindle.  Ha.  Oh, and here's the cover:…

Here are My 5 Writing Goals for 2012, What are Yours?

These aren't New Year's resolutions. These are goals. Because resolutions are made to be broken, and goals are more attainable. Unless you're referencing my brief career as the Shuffling Log on a track and field team. Then, not so attainable.

These are the five things I hope to accomplish before the calendar turns to 2013 (or the world blows up Dec. 12). Authors out there, feel free to grab this list idea and run with it. I'm interested to know what other people have…

Don't drop this

Good ole Harry Bosch is getting close to retiring, hope he has a good retirment plan.
He takes on a couple of cases, one about DNA and the other with political ties.
He does a good job of investigation and juggling the both cases while spending time with his fifteen-year-old daughter who shows signs she wants to go into buz with dad.

Enjoyable and some nice plot twist.
