Hi, Sara, Thanks for the invitation - glad to accept. I'm a journo and crime writer living in Brittany, western France - delightfully Gothic cliff scenes and wonderful beaches to swim from (strictly in summer!). Having trouble at the moment getting anything further published in the UK, so I'm going for the long shot and trying for a sale in France - first, of course, having to translate the darn book!
Sara,
Thanks for the invite. I just finished Barry's THE LAST ASSASSIN, and I said to my husband, "How can we like a guy who kills people for a living?" But we both do! I also really like Paretsky, and I let myself read the next one as a treat when I've been very good and finished editing something for the 10th time or handed in "ancillary material" that is not fun to write at all.
I live in Michigan and travel often to Toronto, Sarnia, and Stratford. My husband takes the more northern routes, fishing and hunting in northern Ontario.
Hi, Sara - Good to meet another Firefly and Buffy fan! It's such a shame that Firefly couldn't have had more seasons. I loved the cast. Nice to see you here.
Thanks for asking me to be on your Crimespace Friends list. I really like your website: very clean, very simple, very neat. (Sorry to hear about your motorcycle accident, though glad that it helped put you on the path to writing. Odd how bad things can change our lives.)
I look forward to learning more about you here on Crimespace, and you'll definitely be hearing from me.
Sara!! We have many tastes in common; all things noir and mysterious and Bogart! :) Thanks for inviting me to your group. I look forward to chatting with you!
Sarah, Allie sounds intriguing. The main character in my upcoming mystery series is named Allie, too. Very different, though. She's a reluctant investigative reporter who feels her way through crimes dumped in her lap by friends. I look forward to reading about your Allie.
Looks like we have similar tastes. My series of cozy mysteries doesn't have a bone fide PI, but a club of elderly women who keep running into crimes they try to solve. Sometimes the results are dire. I myself, besides writing about crime, am a retired criminal (no arrests, no convictions). Visit my web space www.hu.mtu.edu/~hlsachs where you can listen to two of my sgtories thast werebroadcast on the BBC World Service, a market I heartily recommend to all who can write a 13 minute story with a punch. he BBC pays better than those cheap literary magazines.
Friday nights, 1977. A glass of iced tea, a bag of roasted sunflower seeds, and the Rockford Files. Life was good.
Thanks for the add, Sara. I like your taste.
p.s. In the cheap shameless plug department, my next novel, Blood Poison, comes out Sept. 4.
Hi! Allie Fortune sounds like great fun. I don't recall when in the series (which ran from 1939-1972!) but Rex Stout had a female PI Dol Bonner who once in a while crossed Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin's paths, and who got one or two books of her own. Anyway, thanks for the ad.
Thanks for the invite and if you are ever in the Chicago area the first weekend in Feb check out our Love Is Murder conference (www.loveismurder.net). Barry Eisler is a past featured author and will be again in 2008. We have a great time at this conference. My husband - Todd A. Stone - is also the Novelist's Boot Camp guy . We visit Wiarton, Canada every summer and love it. Hope to see you at Love Is Murder sometime. Take care.
I'm happy to accept the invitation Sarah. I'm going to be on the lookout for Allie Fortune, too... Really like the idea of a female PI in postwar New York... it's a heady mix: Raymond Chandler meets Dawn Powell.
