Comment Wall:

  • Daniel Hatadi

The Hard Man is here. Welcome aboard, Mr. Guthrie.
  • Allan Guthrie

Thanks, Daniel. First thing I see is a Google ad for 'Pictures of Gonorrhea'. My kinda place.
  • Daniel Hatadi

Yes, Google knows you. It knows us all.
  • Vince Keenan

Great to see you here. That is one helluva list of movies.
  • Allan Guthrie

I had a handy list, Vince. Not quite up-to-date, though. The important thing is that it's alphabetical. My head would probably implode if it wasn't.
  • Dave White

the agent of all agents is here!
  • Allan Guthrie

Ah, Dave. If only agents needed agents. What fun that would be.
  • Donna Moore

Bloody hell Sunshine - I'm coming round yours to watch films. I'll bring popcorn.
  • Allan Guthrie

Kafka, bring ice cream instead. Doesn't make as much noise.
  • Allan Guthrie

    Neil, resistance is futile.
  • Russel McLean

Just watched 36, Quau Des Orfevres" the other week... yes, yes, yes...
  • Allan Guthrie

That's the first one, Russel. What about the others?
  • Robert Gregory Browne

You're not going to believe this, but my new book is called Two Way Split. Who would've guessed.... :)
  • J.D. Rhoades

    "Jacob's Ladder"?

    Dude.
  • Brian Thornton

Thank God Guthrie's here. We need a sober Scot in order to deal with all of the riffraff. Oh....uhhhh... wait... those names are all on Al's client list...
  • Duane Swierczynski

Ah, finally... a hit of Sunshine here at Crimespace.
  • Tiffany Leigh

Nice to see you here -- not that I mind the kebab shack over at Myspace, but this place pours stronger drinks.
  • Allan Guthrie

    Where's the cake, John?
  • Allan Guthrie

Oh, I wish, Judith. Serpent's Tail already have English language rights to two of the novels. Don't know if that's UK/Commonwealth or World, though.
  • Pat Mullan

    Hello Al,

Haven't seen you since LCC in Bristol and I simply want to say that I LOVED 'Two-Way Split' !

    Slan, Pat.
  • Mary Reagan

No British tv in the favorites list.... interesting
  • Allan Guthrie

Thanks, Pat! Cheque's in the post.
  • Dick Lochte

Alan, I've never heard "transgressive" used as a genre category. But it works for me and I thank you for the addition to my critical vocab,
  • Allan Guthrie

Thinking's not good for me, you know.... Right, well, I reckon that transgressive fiction often isn't noir (Lolita, Trainspotting, Footsucker, etc) but noir is often transgressive.
  • Paul Guyot

    "So let the Sunshine in..."

AG, apparently you're avoiding writing just like the rest of us. Welcome.
  • Charlie Williams

Hey Al, caught FUNNY GAMES last week. I see what you mean. Shouldn't be able to pull off that kind of stuff but he did.
  • Allan Guthrie

Haneke's remaking it, Charlie, with Naomi Watts and Tim Roth.
  • Charlie Williams

Looked it up on imdb. Nice plot keywords: Murder / Murder Of Family / Family / Child Murder
  • Jon Jordan

    Al,

    I can't sleep.
Jennifer spelling your name wrong is keeping me up
  • Allan Guthrie

I've been thinking of changing it for some time, Jon. Thought I might try something simpler like Al Swierczynski.
  • Tony Black

One hell of a party you threw the other night, Al. Just the kind of craic The Pusher likes! Have put a sample up on my page.
  • Otis Twelve

    Greetings, Gates.
  • Declan Burke

Allan - how's tricks? Cheers for the invite, much obliged. A strange thing - you have the same name as this shit-hot Scottish writer Ken Bruen keeps raving about ... you'd want to be careful, yon other Allan G might sue. And I hear he's a bit of a hard case. So be careful out there. Meanwhile, if you fancy doing a Q&A for Crime Always Pays, a (mostly) Irish crime fiction site, drop me a line ... hell, we're all a bunch of Celts anyway, right? Cheers, Dec
  • Patricia

Congratulations on the Theakston's win! Two-Way Split is a great book....Cheers!
  • Steven Torres

Congrats on the victory. Enjoy the rush.
  • Otis Twelve

Churz to you, mate. So great to see you get the keg... and the cash.
  • Daniel Hatadi

Big congrats on the win, Mr. Guthrie.
  • Tom Cain

Thanks for the invite. Great to meet you in Harrogate and many congratulations on your brilliant win. I'll tell my friend Mr Thomas to give you a sparkling write-up in the Sunday Telegraph ... Tho' I can't guarantee that he will. Like most hacks, he's a nasty, embittered individual, seething with resentment at the way others succeed where he has failed. To be honest, I try to avoid him as much as I can, but it's hard sometimes to escape him ...
  • Allan Guthrie

Thanks for the kind words, folks. I'm still on my way back down to earth.
  • Harry Shannon

    Congrats, Allan
  • Tiffany Leigh

I just finished 'HARD MAN' and had to ungrip my fingers from the front and back covers as if they were seared to it. It was such a tremendous read. Dark, funny, surprising, unsettling -- and above all it orbits truth, which is probably the biggest compliment I can give. Thanks for writing it, and congrats on your most recent accolades.
  • carole gill

Congratulations! All the best of luck!
  • Martyn Waites

Aye aye, thanks for the invite. Glad we're now officially friends (what the hell were we before?). Just noticed from your film list that 'The Phantom of Liberty' is on there. Brilliant film. Thought I was the only one who'd ever seen it.
  • Peg Herring

    Allan,
I'm giving talks locally on mystery sub-genres, and I'm looking for a current noir writer to give me a two or three sentence quote about why you think people enjoy the sub-genre. I haven't read your book but I will try to do so in order to speak intelligently about your work.
(If you need a connection, my novel takes place in Scotland, only it's back a thousand years or so.)
  • Peg Herring

    Allan,
The comment is perfect. Thanks so much.
    Peg
  • Bruce Grossman

Thanks Allan for the comment. 'Kiss Her Goodbye' was a total blast when I read it. 'The Hard Man' is on my to be read list
  • Juri Nummelin

Hey Al, just finished Hard Man. I was quite impressed. (And congrats, by the way! Even though the stuff is just in its baby shoes, so to speak.)
  • terry bowman

    Allan,

Nice job in HELL OF A WOMAN. I appreciate all of the contributions from you here and on RARA AVIS. I'm definitely going to acquire more of your writings.
  • MysteryDawg

Loved the SAVAGE NIGHT video. Must have been cold out. I was sitting here with the laptop on the back patio and its about 78 F right now here in Southern CA.
