Haven't seen a moose except for mounted heads on a wall, but walked into a heard of elk once in the Mogillon mountains in New Mexico. They were watering at a gov trough set up to help during a drought in the 70's. I was backpacking, separated from my group and came around the bend of a trail into their water station. No big antler racks, but those 20 animals did make the earth shake when they wheeled around and ran.

We just wrapped up white tail deer season and unfortunately, like Alaska, we get a lot of out-of-state hunters. Someone from Illinois shot a donkey last week and thought it was a deer. oops. Hope your donkey (in the picture) is safe and sound :)
