ALMS FOR OBLIVION

From Youngblood Hawke, the '60s movie at least, starring James Franciscus, seems an appropriate word for the sea of offerings to the world by writers seeking recognition, much like a fish trying to…Continue

LOAN vs. LENT

Don't know about you but I'm tired of seeing even so-called educated, accomplished people misusing the word "loaned" as "lent." After a while it seems to become acceptable, but I suspect because the…Continue

FAT IN THE MIDDLE

The middle of a story. In so many stories authors fluff and stuff it with extraneous wording, unimportant to the story, like belles lettres; whole chapters in some cases to add girth to the thing.…Continue

MIGRATING BACK

...to crimespace after several years of only occasionally checking by to see what might catch my interest... I'm in the reading mood now, not promoting anything coming up soon for sale. "Foul Shot, a Wray Larrick Mystery" was mentioned once here last year when it came out, but I'm currently buying  books by authors other than leaders in the mystery and crime field, because I like to promote people like myself who spend a lot of their lives doing the stuff we do. I want to build a library of…See More

Profile Information

Hometown:
Newport News, Virginia, living in North Carolina
About Me:
I'm currently retired from sales and marketing work, but am back into business. Education in Political Science. I'm a veteran of the Marine Corps, before and during the Viet Nam era, which has a profound influence on most of what I write, whether mystery or literary. Am the founder of the short-lived International Crime Study Club of the early '80s, established for the purpose of investigating old and cold cases of murder and missing persons. And like my character, Wray Larrick, I just hate it when such a case goes unsolved in real life. Expect to live way past a hundred, unless somebody runs over me or shoots me first, which is a real possibility.
I Am A:
Reader, Writer
Website:
http://Cancelled one, building a new one.
Books And Authors I Like:
James Lee Burke, Sue Grafton, Jonathan Kellerman, Elmore Leonard, Anne Frank, Robert B. Parker, the Florida mystery novelists Randy Wayne White & Edna Buchanan/others, Pat Conroy, Wm. Styron, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, I.B. Singer, Harrison E. Salisbury, Ernest Hemingway, Ken Follett, Elie Weisel, James Michener, Nelson DeMille, et al.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
60 Minutes(news, documentaries & investigations), some crime & police series, including Shark, Kojak, Andy Griffith, Crime Story, Seinfeld, Tonight Show, the general run, but not overly so--seen'em all a million times, could write the damn things.

I've only read a couple of his books and it was a long time ago. He just isn't among my favorites

Finally: FOUL SHOT, a Wray Larrick Mystery

Well, after a million years of considering it, I relented and had a murder mystery novel put up on Amazon in ebook format, but not before having to hire someone to do it because I don't know how. The paperback will have to come later. Typing is tough enough for me, and computers--past making a Word doc and doing email, and maybe a little surfing--are from outer space, while I'm from the Stone Age. So shoot me.

Don't even know how to put up the cover here. And not worried about…
