At 9:47pm on March 9, 2009, JackBludis said…: Wow, Sarah, you ask a lot. If there is a simple answer, and I don't think there is, it is to tell it in flashback from multiple points of view. What was his first effect on people, how and when did he wrong them, do they still have a soft spot for him?

I think of the classic Hollywood movie a saw last weekend on TCM, *The Bad and the Beautiful.* with Kirk Douglas as the man you describe, a man apparently down on his luck but appealing to those who loved and trusted him.

Now all of that is if it's a book.

If you're asking how to analyze a read person, you will probably never be able to do it.
