Profile Information

About Me:
I'm the author of "Lethal Blossom" (2011), an amatuer detective mystery with a hint of the paranormal. I also write non-fiction under my maiden name, Stephanie Roberts. I live on the rainy side of the Big Island of Hawaii with my husband and two cats, and however many birds and geckos the cats have brought into the house today. When I'm not writing I am usually playing with my fabric stash and art supplies or lounging on a deck chair with a book. I share a few characteristics with Lena, LETHAL BLOSSOM's protagonist: my shameless coffee addiction; a severe case of the heebie-jeebies when I get near a Ouija board; and frequent thoughts that I ought to eat less cake and do more yoga. I have multiple websites and too many blogs, and you can access them all from my web hub, StephanieSerrano.com.

Books And Authors I Like:
I'm most partial to first-person female-protagonist mysteries, but have lots of guy-author faves, too. Will read any writer who offers a suspense and a sense of humor. Too many favorites to list. Every now and then I try reading something that isn't a mystery or thriller and usually give it up, bored, part-way through.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
I rarely watch crime shows (odd, I know, but I prefer my murder and malevolence in printed form). I enjoy a good caper movie and psychological thriller, and have been known to coerce my husband into watching a romantic comedy. My secret viewing vices are "WipeOut" and renting sitcoms from Netflix for a dose of "giggle-therapy" at the end of the day.

So glad it was a false alarm. I remember you said Hilo was all messed up from a tsunami one other time, I thought of you as I heard the news. Glad you're safe.

Awakened at 6am by Civil Defense alarms, now waiting for the Chile tsunami to reach Hawaii. A gorgeous, sunny morning, hard to believe bad news could be on the way. I am soooooo glad we moved up out of the tsunami evacuation zone last year, did not much like being at sea level given Hilo's tsunami history. Hilo Bay is filling up with boats leaving the harbor, bayfront highway and bridge closed, traffic rerouted on my street, seems to be tapering off as folks finish last-minute running around town. Hoping port/airport/downtown are not damaged. Not much for me to do but wait and see...

So, what's happening on Island Time? I'm suppose to spend a week in Kaui in May, courtesy of my sister.

Ida was a bit scary. We were right behind it and Roatan got washed out and had no electricity. Loved Cozumel.
We got together later with the travel agent who pulled together the trip and pitched the idea of a mystery cruise. I came up with the title: Murder On the High Seas: A Cruise To Die For.
I heard today that the travel agent can pull it together by next fall. 7 days sailing the Mexican Riviera, leaving from Los Angeles, Carnival Splendour seems the probable choice, rates are approx. $350 inside cabin, $550 balcony.
You can see what we're talking about at

I'm suppose to get together with my cohorts in crime and come up with panels and programs so we know how many meeting rooms to reserve. Any ideas?
Is this too soon for anyone to plan? There wouldn't be any extra fees for the conference but we're going to try to negotiate with the ship to sell books. And there wouldn't be any silly rule about who's an author. In fact, I'd love to see small press publishers show up and show their wares!

Welcome, Stephanie. Murder and mayhem is our game--but not a one of us has much fame. You'll enjoy it in here.
