I'm too lazy to write two blogs, I'm afraid! So I've copied across the one I already write on my own website. Sorry.
When I was fifteen or so, on a family holiday in Majorca, I befriended a group of local Spanish kids. They were older than me and led by Juan, an eighteen year old whose father was one of the richest men on the island. Juan drove Number Five, a Ferrari red catamaran that his father had co-piloted to third place in the world speedboat championship a few years before. It was a monster.
I mention this because my research trip to Monte Carlo last week (see… Continue
A few weeks before the US publication of The Double Eagle in 2005, the US Government made a sensational announcement. Ten 1933 Double Eagles, the same incredibly rare $20 coins that feature at the heart of my novel, had been seized from the family of one of the dealers implicated in the original 1940s enquiry. Given the plot of my novel (the recovery of five Double Eagle coins stolen from Fort Knox), it was an incredible coincidence that did not go… Continue
Now I don't
normally like to blow my own trumpet (although I knew someone at school
who was double jointed and used to smugly claim that he could) but in
this case I couldn't resist.
Yes, it's official, I have a fan club. And no it wasn't set up by my mum. It's on the stupidly popular…Continue
God I feel virile! Not in a rip her knickers off and ride her bareback sort
of way (at least no more than usual). I'm talking about a much more
basic, instinctive, hunter-gatherer sort of virility. The sort that
drinks beer, farts a lot, finds the word "bottom" funny, watches
endless repeats of Buffy (or is that just me?) and can, whatever the
time, city or state of inebriation, navigate unerringly to the…Continue
Hi, James. Great to see another Brit author on here blazing a trail with his books like Tom. Sadly you're a Gooner, so you do have some personality defects (staunch, long-suffering Lilywhite you see), but I reckon we can forgive that one minor blip. Anyway, I've seen your books around and based on people's feedback I think I'll dip my toe in Tom Kirk's world. Cheers, Matt
PS. Well played on Saturday, breaks my heart to say you deserved it. Cesc a class above for your mob.
Just finished The Black Sun. Really enjoyed it (tho' I felt gypped that there wasn't a bit more action between Viktor and Tom (and Viktor's a woman, for those that haven't read it!) She seemed like a gal worth knowing ... The depth of research was particularly impressive and I greatly envy the strength of your basic concept of using real-life thefts as the basis for your books. Nice one!
Great meeting you at Harrogate. I bought The Black Sun in the Waterstones at the Crown Hotel and will read by the pool in France in a couple of weeks' time ... asuming the weather isn't as rubbish there as here.
Casturbation - genius! I'll tell you the real term for an author in Hollywood, however ... loser. From F Scott Fitzgerald on, the place has been nothing but a stinking pit of despair for everyone ... with the possible exception of JK Rowling, who's too insanely successful to count!
Chelbel - Spirited Away? You mean Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi - Well that's it's full Japanese name! Yes, saw it and loved it. But the cartoons I'm referring too are a bit more basic than that, although based originally on manga. If you want a laugh and your French is up to it, have a look at these links:

Haven't seen you since LCC in Bristol last year. Can't find the link here to add you as a friend :) :) :)
Best regards,
Pat.
