Bay to Ocean Writers Conference

Saturday I'll meet with a couple hundred local authors at the Bay to Ocean writers conference. This day-long conference features workshops, presentations, and panel discussions on the craft of writing, publishing, marketing and the Internet. It's no wonder it's already sold out.

In addition signing my books, I'll give two presentations at the conference: one on Print On Demand publishing, and another on book marketing. For those of you who signed up, I'll see you Saturday at the Kent… Continue

The Blackhouse

I reviewed "The Blackhouse" by Peter May for The Big Thrill, the newsletter of the International Thriller Writers. This book reminded me that terms like unique and cutting edge still belong in the crime novel lexicon. In addition to being a great story, this book is probably like nothing you have read before. http://www.thebigthrill.org/2011/01/the-blackhouse-by-peter-may/

Author update

As always I had the best time at Love is Murder, my favorite writers conference. The weather didn't prevent nearly 300 crime fiction writers and fans from gathering in Chicago to hang out together. The highlight for me was moderating a panel that included best selling thriller authors Jon Land and Joseph Finder.

Time Slips by

Sorry for the long break, but I fell down the long rabbit hole of researching a story and got lost in cyber space. As the cliche goes: Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.

Got the word on Smashwords?

The number of publishing options available to authors has exploded in the last decade.  About three years ago, a company called Smashwords helped establish the ebook phenomenon we see today.  I blog about them today on Another Writers Life - http://ascamacho.blogspot.com

Meet Me at Love is Murder

This weekend I'll be sharing my writing life with peers and fans at Love is Murder, an annual convention for writers and readers just outside Chicago.  This is one of my favorites because the atmosphere makes it easy for fans and authors to mingle.  Plus, new writers get to mingle with, learn from, and work alongside more experienced authors. Aside from being great fun, Love is Murder provides an educational forum to writers and readers to further their…

Another Cool Review

I met Lynn Naugle at the BWI airport.  I was doing a book signing, and she was winding up a visit to the Baltimore area.  I signed a copy of Russian Roulette for her and she dug into it on her way home to Florida.  She liked it enough to send me a very nice email, and to continue reading my Hannibal Jones series.  I've posted Lynn Naugle's exact words on my web site as this week's featured review - http://www.ascamacho.com

Why?

Does the way we use our language say something about our confidence? When I create prose, even for a writing exercise or a class, I call it writing. So, why is it that doctors call what they do "practice"?

Author Update

The seminar I co-presented on Internet Basics for Authors was great fun, in a surprising way. We had a healthy handful of attendees at the National League of American Pen Women, and we had a well structured presentation ready. However, after about 10 minutes hands began to pop up and the rest of the 90 minute session was driven by questions. As it turned out, not a bad way to run a seminar.

I also had the opportunity to do a very fun and free-wheeling interview on Brayton's Briefs, a… Continue

When Do You Writer?

Gwen Mayo is passionate about blending the colorful history of her native Kentucky with her love for mystery fiction. But instead of talking about the post civil war time period today, she’s talking about the time of day she composes her fiction, and maybe when you should too. - http://ascamacho.blogspot.com

Easy Book Sales Tracking

Canny writers track their book sales to see where and when their marketing efforts have been successful. A few I know pay for Bookscan data. But now Amazon.com seems to have made that unnecessary with their free Author Central option. Learn more on my blog, Another Writer’s Life- http://ascamacho.blogspot.com
