http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/10/barnes-nobles-kindle-killing-dual-screen-nook-e-reader-leaked/

Same price, sharing with others, color touchscreen, supports open formats such as EPUB, 2GB storage, wifi, b&w e-ink screen, discounted prices for ebooks (finally!)...the Kindle is in trouble.

Amazon un-publishes 1984 and Animal Farm from the Kindle

That's right. Those who bought those books now don't have them, as they have been deleted from their Kindles, their accounts credited for the price they paid.

So Amazon, via the Kindle, can take away books you have paid for, meaning when you buy a Kindle edition book, you don't really own it. Yet another reason not to buy a Kindle.…

Book Prices

(Also posted on One Bite at a Time.)

Interesting article in Slate magazine this week by Jack Shafer, about e-book pricing. The entire article is worth reading, but something he brings up in the first paragraph interests me more than the rest.

According to Shafer, publishers routinely sell books to retail booksellers for half the cover price. This… Continue

From the article:

Amazon Encore

"Even great books can be overlooked. And authors with great potential often struggle to connect with the larger audience they deserve to reach. AMAZON REVIEWS UPDATE: Authors CAN have their book titles in signatures on reviews

So much has happened in the past 24 hours. I have been contacted by authors, author organization reps, reporters, book marketers, bloggers and finally, someone from Amazon. Amazon has been bombarded by emails from authors, orgs, marketers etc, and last night I noticed that Amazon in Seattle had checked out my blog posts. ;-)

Today I received an email from a senior member of the Amazon Communities team. He apologized and stated that my reviews had been reinstated.

I began… Continue

Amazon is deleting reviews written by authors who include their book title

Since breaking the news yesterday about my battle with Amazon over reviews (ones I wrote on books I'd read) that they deleted (85 reviews) because I included author of Whale Song in my signature line, I've received emails and phone calls from concerned authors, many who tracked me down via the Internet after reading about me on Twitter, The Write Type or John Kremer's Marketing Tips email. Some authors have already discovered missing reviews; some have gone through the same hassle I… Continue

Amazon Kindle Books Downloadable to iPod and iPhone

I'm glad to see that Amazon has made Kindle books compatible with iPod and iPhone because 7 of my books are on Kindle. This opens them up to a whole new world. On the other hand, I still like to read real books. It takes all kinds.
