Sherlock’s Tomes is the name, and Bridgeton, NJ is the place. What a wonderful little mystery bookstore, tucked away in a town I’d admittedly never heard of before.

Owners Linda and Jim have done a marvelous job creating a charming shop. I’m sure they wondered what the heck they’d gotten themselves into, inviting this guy to do a signing, when my wife and I pulled up in front of the store on our Harleys! The date happened to fall smack within Bike Week in Wildwood, so Sylvia and I decided to take a few days to enjoy the Jersey shore—and the thousands of motorcycles—while in the neighborhood.

Being there on the first Friday of the month was a treat—The local merchants have a First Friday event that’s complete with a showing at the local art gallery (with delicious hors d’oeuvres laid out), and a musician performing at the local coffee shop. And, as a special treat—for me, that is—an appearance at the local bookstore by a debut author!

This was my first foray outside my own area, where there’s at least a fighting chance that friends and family will fill seats, and I was ever so gratified to find people venturing into Sherlock’s Tomes to give this new guy on the block a try.

I’m honored that Linda and Jim have made Silent Counsel the monthly selection for Sherlock’s Tomes’ monthly book club.

My thanks to them both for making me feel welcome, and for making my trip to Bridgeton memorable.
