Yes, I do the same. I've gotten some great ideas from my friends and family. I'm getting some great material from my grandmother lately. Actually, if I told the total truth, no one would believe that I know so many crazy people! Being a caricaturist, I am also studying the faces and movement styles of everyone I meet.
